    moving nests

Thank you for the advice. I have moved her and the eggs to the small indoor hospital cage (parrot cage) which is covered to keep her calm. She's had meds twice this morning. She stood over the plastic tray that the eggs are in (along with the feathers from the nest) but wouldn't sit for 3...

    moving nests

I have a strange question - I think. I have a muscovy with a problematic eye that I have been washing with saline. I had missed the problem but realised why today. I got eyedrops from a vet to adminster between 3 and 6 times a day and couldn't find her when I got back. Built a quarantine cage...

Older gosling suddenly lame and unbalanced

Thanks all. I found out about a pigeon medicine supplier in town. Bought a vitamin b and a multivit solution from them. We seemed to be getting somewhere as the little one was trying to get up on its haunches yesterday morning. Unfortunately though, when I checked up again in the afternoon, it...

Older gosling suddenly lame and unbalanced

Thank you all for your replies. I have searched, without success, for water fowl feed in the past. I found a feed manufacturer that makes 3 varieties of duck food, but no one here stocks it - according to one store the minimum order is 100 x 50kg bags per variety: and there is no demand. They...

Older gosling suddenly lame and unbalanced

This gosling has not followed me to the dam for a few days but stayed in its nesting area still walking, eating and drinking, so didn't suspect any problems. From an early age its feet were turned in, but it has been getting Vitamin E in its water and Brewer's Yeast in its food for a few months...

Skin is missing too. Muscles (deeper layer exposed but doesn't seem to be punctured. She seems to be eating and drinking. I'll scramble some eggs. Thanks

    Muscovy attacked by a dog

Muscovy was attacked by a dog this morning. The feather layer of skin on her chest is missing. I rinsed out the wound and applied healing oil. She is in a small cage in the house. Is there something else I could/ should do? Some way to apply a dressing?

Sick gosling - getting worse fast

Thank you all for your help. The little one died this afternoon. So far it's sibling with the parents seems to be fine. I will try to source other feed. (Have a tiny Muscovy that hatched in the incubator 2 days ago)

Do you mix grit in with the food or separately?

Sick gosling - getting worse fast

A bit of Mixed Fowl Food with the bulk being Pullet Grower to which I added some Brewers Yeast. Recently changed the Grower as the previous one was Layer Grower and marked as suitable from 8 days and the supplier insisted that's what there is. We don't have a huge selection of feeds to choose...

Sick gosling - getting worse fast

Defecating fine. Undercarriage is dirty as it falls in the food and in the open container of water/meds. I will clean the baby periodically

Sick gosling - getting worse fast

Every bird I have taken to any of our vets is euthanased - I don't think they know where to start treating
