I saw a post on this recently but now I can't find it. I would like to know what meds/etc I should have on hand for chicken illness or injury. What's it called, where can I get it and what is it good for? Thanks much! Just trying to be prepared.
I now know that I have leghorns instead of orpingtons. I read that sometimes an orpington can have yellow legs if a recessive gene shows up, but it doesn't happen very often. I'm betting that they did not give you what you asked for! I ended up with only two leghorns as the other two were...
I got 4 chicks from tractor Supply that were supposed to be Buff Orpingtons, and they all have yellow legs. They are a very pale yellow at 8 weeks. I'm wondering what I really got?!
ah - so sad. It's hard being a chicken mom. My little one that also was breathing heavy is still going, but much smaller than the others, and still breathing hard, but not as hard. Also, now we know that she is a he, so he will be rehomed this evening to a woman who works at Tractor Supply...
yes I have one chick that is smaller than the other three and also breathes heavily and has from the very beginning. We tried breathing treatments and that didn't seem to help and was very stressful for her so we stopped doing it. She has no discharge from her beak or eyes but does sneeze...
My one week old chick has a firm lump - i think her crop is full and hasn't emptied. She is resting more than usual and stays away from the other 3 chicks. She is usually the leader. What to do?
Just her feet - they were red and puffy. She has recovered well with a little slight peeling on her feet, but no other noticeable problems. She is back to herself with her "in your face" personality that we love!
Just to clarify, the mug wasn't in their enclosure, we were holding the sick chick over it outside their enclosure while letting the others explore around. We didn't want to separate them and stress them out. Lesson learned!
Thank you for the advice for the burns!
They're on chick crumbles...
Hello! I have 5 older hens and decided to get baby chicks this spring. They are 4 Buff Opringtons. I am retired and love spending time with the chicks and improving the coop and yard. I made this account to ask for advice because my very adventurous chick, Nurse Crane jumped into a cup of...
We have four week-old chicks, one of them has a respiratory upset that we are treating with steam. Our boldest chick, Nurse Crane, hopped into the mug we were using to steam, and the water was very hot. we dried her off and she's resting now, but we're worried that she might be burned or...
