Thank you for your input. And jeansweezey, I wouldn't mind if they slept in the nesting boxes, the problem is that they are messing in them and it isn't clean for the eggs. The nesting boxes are a mess!

Wonderful article! I hope you can help me solve my problem with the chickens sleeping in the nesting boxes. I have 11 chickens, 8 of which are hens. 6 nesting boxes. When I just had the 3 hens there was never a problem; now with newer hens they all want to sleep in the nesting boxes, which...

Newly hatched chicks in a second story nesting box

My black sex-link hen just hatched her first chick, which seems to be a roo if the black mark on its head is any indication. We have 2 other hens and a very aggressive rooster. Should I separate the chick from the rest of the flock? What about the mama?

    Aggressive Rooster

Thanks so much for the feedback! We'll give Webster a little more time, and see what happens . . . About the nesting boxes, I'm stumped. Everywhere I looked when we were planning the coop suggested placing the boxes a little higher off the floor. They're built-in . . . I'm wondering if I...

    Aggressive Rooster

Our lovely black sex-link roo, Webster, has become not so lovely these days. He has attacked my fiancée, Greg, and managed to puncture his calf with his spur. Although I told Greg it "was only a flesh wound", still, it hurt. Just yesterday Webster tried to attack me, and I held him off with...

Ended Official BYC-Mini Contest - Post a pic of your chickens with your other

This is our precious Hemingway Calico, Saphira, asking for HELP!!! Our roo, Webster, and his ladies, Cami, Hazel and Poe, are invading Saphira's space - - and they helped themselves to her food bowl. It ended up with Saphira escaping without a scratch, and the flock enjoying her supper!!!
