Broken Toenail, Swollen Infected Toe - Advice? (Pictures)

The stuff I used was a different brand and didn't do much other than make the wound sticky. It's worked for me before on superficial wounds, but not this time on a deep infection. I'd be willing to try the Stockholm variety for next time. Could you post a picture of the can/bottle so I can...

Broken Toenail, Swollen Infected Toe - Advice? (Pictures)

I tried the pine tar on his toe, but it didn't work for me so I wouldn't recommend it. I would continue the frequent warm saltwater soaks and Betadine. I found that it did a much better job at reducing the swelling and kept the site of infection clean after the operation. Good luck with your chook!

    Help! Chicken Pooping Out Blood!

Thanks for posting the photo. It's a bit grainy, but based on what I see, it's nothing I would personally be concerned over. The spots are very minor. Cocci is much more pronounced (bright red chunky streaks), and it looks like this: As far as behavior goes, the time to get concerned is...

    Help! Chicken Pooping Out Blood!

Blood is normal sometimes when the intestinal lining sheds. If it's runny, spotty bloody I would tend to agree with Chick Charm and look into Coccidiosis. Do you have any pictures? This thread has some photos for distinguishing good poo from the bad poo...

    Twisted beak?

Your chicken has scissor beak, a genetic defect that affects beak alignment. The condition usually worsens with time and makes it difficult for the chicken to feed and drink normally. If you plan to keep it, you will have to provide assistance and special care to ensure it survives. You'll have...

Broken Toenail, Swollen Infected Toe - Advice? (Pictures)

chooks4life, thank you for the reply! I do have pine tar and have used it to successfully treat feather/vent pecking in the past. Maybe I can try it on his toe, but I think the infection is too advanced at this point. I've also treated scaly mite before with Vaseline, but this little guy doesn't...

Broken Toenail, Swollen Infected Toe - Advice? (Pictures)

I have a 2 year old Wyandotte rooster with a swollen toe. He somehow broke the nail, and it has since become infected. At first, the nail looked jammed up into the toe (is this even anatomically possible?), but we figured it must have broken off. Upon noticing the injury, we cleaned it, applied...

Foot issue: need some help with diagnosis

Thank you for the reply and link. It is an unusual looking bump isn't it? It doesn't appear to be bumble. I tried treating the pad of his foot with betadine, but it didn't respond. I suppose I'll keep an eye on it and update this thread if it changes or gets worse. If anyone else has advice, I'm...

Foot issue: need some help with diagnosis

Hello all. This is my first post to the forum, but I've been a long-time reader. The picture below is a foot on my 1.5 yr old Wyandotte roo (click for larger version). I noticed the protrusion on the underside as he was walking around a few days ago. The wart-like tissue does not seem to cause...
