I have 2/7 chickens with bumblefoot, we soaked and cleaned one, some pus came out of the left foot, just blood from right, I tried a sharp needle and tweezers to pull plug/debris.
Second chicken discovered while checking feet.
Third chicken had a scab but in between her back claw and the...
She’s def broody. Only leaving to eat and drink once/twice a day. She also stopped laying and was laying daily before this. She was on the nest when I woke them up this morning. I’m wondering if I should get her some fresh chicks now? Might be really complicated over the cold months, though.
I just went in and let them into their fenced yard from the run and she was in the nesting box, no eggs. She has a full mushy crop, looks like maybe she is molting because her breast area has feathers. I reached in and took her out and put her with her girls while my husband got plastic on one...
She’s full grown. 29 weeks, I think now.
They are tall but they have a ramp and she’s always gone up there. She gets down no problem and this just started this last few weeks. Maybe they are too high. I never thought of that. We could lower them.
we have a flock of 7 chickens, 1 silkie, her other silkie friend died when they were only a few days old.
she has done wonderfully with her regular chicken friends and holds her own just fine. She would roost with the girls just fine. Now that it’s getting cooler in Massachusetts she is...
Yesterday I planted more seeds, I’m not sure how many of my starts are going to take off. I didn’t harden the first set off (I was frazzled with completion of our coop. Thankfully I seeded for a lot of them prior, then put in starts and then reseeded for them again.
Today I brought out my...
Today I cleaned out the back area behind the coop which is going to be their pasture area. Hubby will cut a pop door in the back. I took 10 wheelbarrow full of rubber mulch that we had in the area we laid out the coop and I had to remove it quickly to build the coop and run, I just threw it in...
I did run an extension cord to that area anticipating the winter. I have a radiant brooder and that can go on the wall and if we have super cold snaps but we’ve been having less and less of those here. Also, for a water warmer to keep it from freezing.
I watched all the girls on the roost last...
I feel dumb because I finally figured out that I can fill it daily during the warmer months very easily and I don’t need to lug it back and forth super full 😂😩🙈
Tuesday will be a week they’ve been outside and everything is going well. They’re a lot of fun.
just a few notes:
They’re using the roost, looks like the front one of the 3 I put in. I’m assuming as they get bigger they may need to spread to the back two as well. I’m pretty sure they’re all...
I love that movie.
And thank you! We worked really hard on the coop. Needs the be finished on the exterior (siding) and a pop door to the free range area for them out back. I still have some clean up back there, though.
She’s really beautiful. She tends to be a little elusive and shy...
Thank you! :) I can’t remember the shade of green but I can look on the can. The egg wallpaper was a labor of love on these walls but it’s turned out ok after I flexsealed it
