The 5th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

I had 5 chicks hatch. All of them were from my own flock. None of the shipped eggs that I set hatched. One of the chicks is having problems and can't stand up, so it will probably have to be culled.

The 5th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

I candled and pulled clears, quitters, and bloodrings. I'm down to 14 eggs from 54, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that most of these hatch! I also have 2 hens that are broody for the first time, one's a Naked Neck who is sitting on well over 20 eggs (I accidentally dropped one when I was...

    The Olive-Egger thread!

As part of a surprise chick special I purchased from PapaBrooder last year, I received 4 autosexing oliver egger project chicks, 2 male and 2 female. They are F1, and I'm sure PapaBrooder is using Rhodebars from Greenfire Farms, and based on the other breeds he's raising, I'm guessing he's using...

    Arizona Chickens

Demosthine is right, I do lacto fermentation, I got the two types mixed up. I don't add vinegar or anything else to my batch, I set the lid on the top of the bucket loosely, and I use water straight from the hose (in tucson). After I feed in the mornings, I add more dry grains and water, and...

    Arizona Chickens

I ferment my feed, but I do the alcohol fermentation. Several things I read when I first started made it seem preferable to lacto fermentation. Maybe you're not stirring it often enough? It should be stirred at least twice per day. I've never had mine go moldy and I've only dumped it once due...

    Arizona Chickens

Does anyone know if boxes approved for shipping chickens can be re-used? Is that allowed by the post office? Also, to piggyback on Angelray's post, how would I look up the restrictions for shipping live chickens to other states, since NPIP certification is pretty much non-existent in AZ (I know...

    Araucana thread anyone?

What do you guys think of this roo? I hatched him from an egg. Would he be considered good for breeding? I've been trying to sell him on Craigslist with no luck.
