Oh, the processor in Scio is opened. They only do whole birds and charge $4 a bird. The name is Rainey Shadow El Rancho.
That is part of it.
Fish meal? Good idea. I should see if I can find any cheap locally.
Often, in the ones that I have that have leg problems I also notice a slightly slower growth all around. Not enough for me to really worry though. My smallest bird butchered out at 4.5 pounds at 8 weeks...
Because of their growth they are more likely to have leg issues. Sometimes it's genetics that cause the leg issues, in the case of my last batch. And sometimes it is feed. I try to keep mine on a feed that is at least 22% protein. It will help with the leg issues.
Because they are on pasture...

Super glue is perfectly safe for your skin. It's the same thing as liquid bandage. I have used it on all sorts of cuts on both me and my animals.
I'll have to keep the glue thing in mind for my nephew. Though duck taping to a chair is more my style.
I know a lady who bought a jenny to guard her sheep. The jenny was a proven guard and about 3 years old.
She kept her in a pasture next to her sheep for 2 weeks then when everything looked like it would be fine, no squabbles over the fence or anything she let the jenny out with her sheep...

You can have all the ones that land in my fields. 2 small lakes with a wide grass landing strip in between. Goose heaven.
Come the end of spring I hardly have any grass left for the cattle to graze. At least they leave some fertilizer behind and drill the soil some.
As for keeping...
I have a pair of "off farm boots" that I use when ever I go onto someone else's place. They stay in a plastic bag in my car unless I bring them in to soak them in disinfectant.
The other thing you can do is get plastic shoe covers that you slip on. They are disposable.

Hey Bethany,
I was talking to my BF and it seems he thinks we may be moving soon. Possibly to town, as we are having problems with our landlords.
So I can't take him.
I would. But I would hate to have to get rid of him in a few months if we do move.
Hey Bethany,
Couple of questions. Is he crowing yet and if he does is it early in the morning? Has he free ranged at all or has he just been in your tractor? Also does he roost?
I think that is why my last roo became dinner. Was because he stayed on the ground and didn't go roost with the...

Nailed it on the spot. I don't put up with any aggressive animals. Chickens are on the small side for what I have but I don't allow my animals, boys especially, to be aggressive to me or any people. Nip it in the bud off the bat and you won't have a problem. Even works with my 1600lb...
