    Newly hatched gosling beak deformity

My first gosling hatched and its beak is deformed. It hatched totally on its own and seems ok, but it’s missing a nostril. I know it’ll take time to tell if it’s going to be ok but has anyone seen something like this before? Did they turn out ok? Anything I should do to help keep it healthy?

Hen gasping for breathe, possibly dying

They’re doing great, everyone is looking healthy. Not even a single sneeze left. Nobody else died. They have a little longer on antibiotics then they’ll be all clear.

Hen gasping for breathe, possibly dying

Took two hens to the vet today, since they improved dramatically on clavamox I was prescribed antibiotics to put in their water and treat the entire flock. Vet didnt seem interested in testing them since we had a treatment that was working and it wouldnt change much / would save money. So far no...

Hen gasping for breathe, possibly dying

Called and they said it isnt ideal but still doable, they said to just keep it frozen for a day or two and if no new bodies show up I can just send the frozen one. But you're right fresh/cold not frozen would work better for them

Hen gasping for breathe, possibly dying

Ah, good to know. Probably too late now… I called the testing center and didn’t think to ask if freezing vs fridge was ok. If another bird dies I’ll have a cooler ready to send it. I may get the live birds tested, I have a vet appointment tomorrow since I was panicking trying to save the...

Hen gasping for breathe, possibly dying

Kind of interesting update, I gave my wheezing hen some leftover clavomox I had and this morning she wasnt wheezing anymore... I gave her another dose today and the other sick hens what I had left. Going to try and get more and see if this helps all of them and stops it. I have the first body in...

Hen gasping for breathe, possibly dying

I woek up this morning and she was gone. Even worse my favorite hen is wheezing now. She is still active but every breath she is wheezing and she is sneezing. Another hen is sneezing, and another is hunched up... It feels like it is a respiratory disease and is spreading fast. I'm terrified I...

Hen gasping for breathe, possibly dying

I'll give the electrolytes and calcium a try, I need to check on her to see if she is still doing ok after my last attempt to help... Just feels terrible not being able to do anything for them. But thats the nature of it sometimes. I appreciate the kind words and advice.

Hen gasping for breathe, possibly dying

I have no idea, it’s very odd. I tried massaging her throat and crop and made her vomit a bit to see if it did anything but I don’t think it helped. Just gave her some water and let her rest, not sure what else to do to help her. Just wait and see if she can get over it. Might post videos if...

Hen gasping for breathe, possibly dying

It’s dark now but she’s standing, still gasping (which is making a wheeze noise in and out), seems like some color has returned to her comb… still not sure if she will make it. Only factor I can think is it got to 77 today when it’s been averaging 50’s the past week, and before then colder...

Hen gasping for breathe, possibly dying

I left her out by the field to maybe die and I came to check on her an hour later and her head was up and she tried to get up and walk away from me. Still gasping and weak but not totally dead looking. I put her in a cage so nobody can get to her and see if she maybe recovers. Still curious what...

Hen gasping for breathe, possibly dying

I have a 10 month old brown leghorn/copper maran cross hen. She was totally healthy and active this morning. She’s never shown signs of sickness. I found her just a moment ago gasping for breathe with a blue comb on the ground. I felt her crop and it seemed normal and full of seeds/feed. I...

How to keep wild birds off feed

With bird flu going around I want to keep wild birds off my feed. I have a flock of juncos and starlings that assault the feed anytime Im not there. I currently feed in the morning in open containers like this: I have considered to switching back to a covered feeder like this: My only...
