Hello I am Mallory and currently in Wisconsin.
I have been reading up on all kinds of things from incubators, brooders, hatching, and coops to raising chickens, ducks, pheasants and quail.
I have recently become obsessed with chickens this year after failing a couple years ago. My husband and 3 kids are enjoying the country life on a 1 acre farm raising animals. We currently have 18 hens consisting of 3 buff orpingtons(Rosemary, Sage, and Basil), 3 golden laced wyandottes(Polka Dottie, Goldie, and Lacy), 3 calico princesses(Honey, Peanutbutter, and Pickles), 5 black australorps (Blackberry, Olive, Bellatrix, Nella, and Sparkles,) 4 rhode island reds (Zelda, Paprika, Cinnamon, and Mavis) and 1 rhode island rooster(Ferdinand).
We also have 4 white campbell ducks who we call The Police because they are constantly patrolling the chickens. We now have 8 ringneck pheasants after some pretty agile tactics they can perform. And our recent addition 38 quail we hatched from eggs.
Aside from birds my son shows pigs in 4-H and my husband takes care of the butcher hogs as well as broiler chickens in spring. We also love gardening, canning, fishing, and hunting.
We used to have goats and hopefully will have some again one day.
This is all a big change from living in the city but now that we are here in the country there is no going back.
