    I don't know where you are, but I'll give you some silkie hens. I'm blessed with them. I started out with two females and two males and they had many babies. Nobody seems to want them. They lay eggs all the time and are VERY broody.

    I would refrain from giving them egg shells. It might encourage them to eat their own eggs. Oyster shells work well and are cheap.

    Red light bulb

    The red light is supposed to prevent pecking in young chicks. If there is any blood and chicks see it they will tend to peck that spot on a hapless litter mate. The red light will prevent the chicks from being able to see blood. Those are my brother's answers about the red bulb.

    Another thought: Remove the aggressive rooster from the coup. Place him in "time-out." When he returns, he'll be less aggressive.

    For some reason, roosters seem to know that you fear them. If you run or act scared, that sends a signal for them that they are superior. NEVER run from them. Learn the signs of when they are going to attack: One wing down to the ground, going around in a circle, scratching the ground close...
