Yesterday, before bed, we had 10 bitties with one mama (Rider) and 3 bitties with the other (Fluffy). This is Fluffy's 4th hatch, she's Rider's mama. This is Rider's second hatch. I had to take Rider's first due to her being done at 3 weeks with 4 bitties. We'll see if I have to step in this...
May I offer up my 3 olive/easter eggers (as labeled)? They're about 4-5 weeks old. Sheriff Pecks aka PeckAll 3 in the garden, in order, Shaq, FeeVee, & Pecks. Shaqilicious aka Shaq. Shaq, Peck, FeeVeeFeeVee. Took the longest for tail feathers development and still doesn't have the amount of...
UPDATE
Cheese's nub is healing so well. She still has one scab on top but it's healing. She ended up losing her "thumb" on her "good" foot and the bottom is still scabbed but, again, healing. Her stomach is fully healed. She goes outside for daily sunshine. I haven't reintroduced her to the rest...
I know this is for a rooster, but can you use Tylosin for egg producers? I have a sick flock and am trying hollistic stuff but if that doesn't work I'll need antibiotics. Just making sure if we have to go this route that we will eventually be able to eat their eggs again.
That's why I haven't used the mats. I have a door and step down. I suggested the barn rake because you don't have to bend down to scoop as bad and can reach under stuff better. I have back pain so it's hard for me to bend over. I most definitely would struggle with just a kitty litter scoop...
Anything that will keep the door latched. Could be a slide-in lock, a latch that a clip or lock could go on, an eye hook. Just whatever you could use to secure it tightly.
I started off with Easter Eggers from TSC (not sure which hatchery they used) and my girls looked almost identical. I only had 6. As they grew they each had some different patterns. A couple looked nearly identical though so it was hard telling them apart for a while. Their fuzzy faces are my...
Ok, thanks for the tips. I plan on getting some Chlorhexidene today. I had Hibiclens but didn't realize I've run out. I'm in FL and haven't had freezing temps so I know frostbite isn't likely but I'm leaning more toward an injury that got bacteria in it.
I agree with the suggestions made here. By allowing the chicks to be in the coop safely with the rest of the flock they will all get used to seeing other. They'll still have to re-establish their pecking order but this is the easiest way. When my mama had her first 2 hatches I kept her and the...
I put it on shelves under my roosting bars and it is easier. I can scoop the poop out with my shovel. You can also spray them down and wipe them off easier.
You could remove them to spray them down and then hang in the sun to dry. Depending on the size you choose. They are heavy. I also have a concrete floor in our coop as we turned an old shed into the coop. We were doing the deep litter method but ended up with rats that we're still combating...
I have her in a bin in the house with a light on it. She actually got on to the side and roosted there all night. I have 500mg Amoxicillin from when my dog was spayed but didn't need it as she healed well. I'm going to break them in half and then grind the halves into powder and give her one...
She's a brahma. I cut the feathers along her foot to see better. After her bath when I was drying her I noticed her belly also has sores. She refuses to roost on the roosting bar and instead roosts on their feed can on her stomach.
This is the skin hanging from the worst foot.
Her stomach. I...
