    New chick, eye problems

A follow up - she's not really eating or drinking. She stops every once in awhile and moves her head up and down slowly.

    New chick, eye problems

Hello, We just got our new flock of 8 chicks this morning. Everything seemed fine but this afternoon I noticed that one of my salmon faverolles had what looked like yellowish liquid on its back and the feathers around the eye. She's keeping one eye shut most of the time. We tried to clean it...

Sick hen back, pecking order out of whack (help)

We went out this morning and she's still active, yet hiding in the coop. We found this egg in the nest box and we're hoping it's hers since she hasn't laid in over a week :

Sick hen back, pecking order out of whack (help)

Thank you for your advice. As far as we can tell she seems ok. We've checked her poop, crop and vent. She was egg bound earlier in the fall and managed to pass it. We thought that was the issue at first. She seems relatively normal, especially compared to when she was ill last time. Just very...

Sick hen back, pecking order out of whack (help)

Hello, we need some advice on our flock's behavior. We have 6 ISA brown hens. Last week one was very lethargic and constantly drinking. We brought her in for a few days and gave her electrolytes, etc. After a few days she seemed much better we brought her back to the flock. Unfortunately she's...

    Friends for faverolles

Thanks for the helpful advice. We do plan on raising 8 together and not mixing flocks until the new ones are full grown. We plan on 2 adjoining coops and runs where they can safely socialize. We're thinking of swapping the wyandotte for another faverolles because we're reading how the...

    Friends for faverolles

We're wrapping up our first official year of owning chickens and have recently made an order to add 8 new hens to our flock. Among the many different breeds, we selected one salmon faverolles as a substitution after the we placed the order because we accidentally ordering a breed that wasn't...

    Too cold for young chickens?

The temperature is supposed to drop overnight for the next few nights into the low 30s and 20s. I have 6 isa brown chickens that are 8 weeks old. Will it be too cold in the coop for them? I've closed windows and the door for the night. There's still ventilation away from the roosts. Thank you

    Lockdown coop project

Thanks for the compliments and concerns. We don't plan on taking the chicks out of the run for awhile. At least until we're able to get them to respond to us fairly easily. There's also a big open field nearby that's often got hawks on the prowl so we'll never leave them out alone.

    Lockdown coop project

Hi all and thanks for all of the helpful posts! I'm a first time chicken owner and I've been wanting to get chickens for a few years now. I've been collecting egg cartons in my hallway closet for quite some time in preparation for all of the eggs I hoped to get. I finally pulled the trigger on...

    Isa brown rooster? Help!

Thanks - that's good to know. I was worried when I read that the hens were supposed to be all brown and roosters mostly white.

    Isa brown rooster? Help!

Thank you for your replies. You've calmed my wife's nerves. My son was also worried because that was his chicken called "Na" We're excited to have these girls and it's something I've been planning for several years. The coop has been a fantastic project while stuck at home.

    Isa brown rooster? Help!

Hello. First time chicken owners here. We picked up 6 Isa Browns at TSC and they're about 4 weeks old now. Most of them are fairly brown except one in particular and we're concerned that it's not a hen. I've seen similar posts but I think there is not a consistent set of opinions on chicks that...
