Been spraying oil on her foot the last 2 days with no soaks. Checked her today and let her soak a few minutes to clean her foot off. All the black areas in the pads and toes seem to be "shriveling" up and drying out more...not sure if that's a good thing? The edges of the areas seem to be...
Update: we've been applying the spray vegetable oil since Monday once a day. We are trying to get her to soak her foot for at least 20 minutes each day and see if anything is softening up. She hates it and tries to run away. The black areas are super hard and seem like built up dead skin. It...
Probably not a sand fly issue since she was in the brooder with a couple inches of pine shavings?
After soaking and cleaning she seemed to have less of a limp....but that might be hopeful thinking. If there's not a cure then maybe we can just keep it clean to help her feel better.
When I was cleaning her feet last night it seemed like the "pads" of her feet had growths and in the crevices was some trapped poop/dirt. That's my best guess. The pads on the toes even have weird looking growths. So if by chance this is mites, would that only effect one leg and not the other? I...
Thank you, I know there could be a possibility of her just having deformities and/or health problems. Maybe we can help her to still have a happy life or at least for as long as we can.
We have the multipurpose sand. I had read that the play sand wasn't good to use. As a chick she had more balding spots and was the only one that was affected by pasty butt. She still has liquid poop and sometimes it's just water.
Well we have named some... The rhode island red was Scarlet but since it's probably a rooster we will need a new name. My son wants to make him Alex. The buff orpington is Daisy and one of the black ones is pee-wee since she's been the smallest of all. Can't really tell the other three black...
Hello,
My husband and I are new to chickens. We bought 6 chicks back in March. Four black sexlinks from the pullet bin, one rhode island red that we think is a rooster and one buff orpington that we think is a pullet. They are about 8 weeks old and have been in their coop outside for about three...
I live in TN. She's 8 weeks old and have been outside roughly 3 weeks. She had it before moving to the coop but wasn't limping. We had tried soaks during that time and wasn't able to remove much. We noticed the limping today. After soaking in with the salts I was able to scrape out some stuff...
This was noticed first before they were put in the coop outside. This particular chicken has always been the smallest, we names her pee-wee, haha. But she was the only one that got pasty butt and still gets it stuck in her feathers but not on the vent. She continues to have runny poo sometimes...
