For the record, I was just kidding about attaching their house to mine...though I am looking at how this city code is being applied and exploring all options. If anyone has had any dealings with the city of Beaverton themselves, please let me know!

Where to start...
We've had chickens in the city for awhile now, and we checked the city code before we got them. The city code states:
5.05.025 Livestock and Poultry.
Except for household pets and as otherwise permitted by the Code or other City ordinance, no person shall keep or maintain...
If you lived where I live (Pacific NW), you wouldn't have to worry AT ALL about the dreaded 'S'...doesn't get warm enough here.. I'll see tiny little Garter's slithering about once every year or two, but that's it... My hens would kill a Garter if they saw one in the backyard, lol.
I looked up Beaverton's city code, and it says this (specifically under the Livestock and Poultry section):

Thanks for all the replies. I figure if we do get in trouble, I could always play dumb and say, "well, I did get my chicks from mypetchicken.com, so I thought they were OK since the ordinance for the poultry sections states 'Except for household pets...' "
I'm sure though if the complaint...
I wanted other peoples opinion on this, my wife and I figure our new chicks will be part of our family and are thus considered pets.
This ordinance confuses me... Do you think we'll be keeping chicks illegally, after reading the below? We've ordered 4, and they'll free range for the most part...
