I have a good sized flock, mostly mixed but with a core of pure Blue Partridge Brahmas.
I hatched out 3 really nice hens and a roo last spring that from an outside breeder. They have been running with the whole flock this whole time and I have a number of roos so it is sort of catch as catch...
So check in here.
13 in the brrooder... all eggs out of the bator but two chicks "recovering" both with curled necks... One to the point where I thought to cull but he spent the hour I was making that decision yelling at me so .. well give it a go and see what happens.
The other isn't bad...
I may have to go read more on that Magic Mushroom Kit...
Purely educational of course!
---UPDATE----
Of course there is an Instructable on ow to do this!

And... I really am shocked to have not thought of the upside down method! Although more...
OK.. so I am going to post this random idea here rather than the DIY incubator area because it applies more to "hands on" than general topic.
My incubator is made from a clear tub and fairly deep (I am going to change that next time actually)

I had inadvertantly done this by mistake already with my little cracked egg. One of the hatchlings had pulled a bit of the tape off and a part of te shell... it appears it "helped" by nicking a vein. By the time I noticed the blood in the bator Crackers was gone. :(
I've pipped into the air...

One of my Swedish Flower Hens decided to come into the world backwards.. or at least try to.. she pipped two days early face down/pointed end....no progress for almost 36...
I have two 40wts in my clear sided tub incubator. And so far doing great. Ambient temp in cabin is low right now (63) hough and the clear tubs don't hold heat as long and are a lot taller than most styrobators.
So yeah up at the top might be in the 100-101 range but egg level is usually 1-3...
I do.. with some small, non cat/dog accessible air vents.
I'm sure they will be fine.. they can't be tipped.. at worse the tote will be marked for ownership. (Two uncut males in the house. They don't normally do bad things but the whole "This new thing is mine!" "No mine!" type thing can cause...
My fingers are crossed for you and your little ones too!
As of this morning I am at 10...9 of my Blue Partridge Brahmas and the first of the Swedish Flower Hens just a couple of minutes ago.
I have movement in some of the remaining brahma eggs. Trying hard to resist pippin for them. Waiting...
