I do live in town, but a rural town of about 1500. As for wildlife we do have some although I never see them close to my home. The coop will be place near my house so should be fairly easy to watch. I have 3 dogs with very good hearing. A friend of mine who has chickens said if you walk...
Thanks. I will stick to my original plan and use chicken wire .... make sure it is strong enough to protect my chicks. I appreciate everyones advice. And I think you are right - "something" may be able to chew through this material.

Very cute! That helped alot - it is the coops one likes to keep off the ground, not so much the run. I have a deck on the upper level of my house where it is dry and unfinished underneath. I was thinking this might be a good place, especially during winter and bad weather. It is sheltered...
Nice! I unfortunately do not have quite so much space. And, not sure if there will be much freeroaming as I do not have a fence. I do live in a small rural town but still, have neighbors. I don't think chickens take orders! Do you have any trouble with racoons or fox? Like I said, thanks...
what are you opinions on having a coop run w/a floor of some type ... also having coop on legs of some sort or cement blocks. I suppose this would be helpful with rain and such. What are all of you doing? I cannot freerange so having it up off ground would prevent moving it around?

My friend replaced the screens on an indoor/outdoor room/sunroom. When you scratch w/your fingernail on the screen, it is not metal (at least on the outside) but feels like a plastic coating of sorts ... mind you, it is a fine mesh as you would expect on a screen window. I do not think it...
I was offered some screens to use for a run. The screen material is of a nylon synthetic material (not metal). Will the chickens peck through this and/or would the material harm them in any way??? If not, good cheap way to make a run of some sort! Your thoughts?

that works! I have a question. I am going to start chicks in the spring and build a small coop/run this fall -winter. A friend put new screens on her home and has offered me the old to build a coop. My question is the screen is of a nylon synthetic material (not steel/metal). would chickens...
Thanks for all the welcomes!! So far I am enjoying all the reading material - fun! I do currently have 3 dogs, 1 cat, 2 cockateils and a 90gl. aquarium. I have cancer (metatasic 1V colon cancer and rectal cancer - currently in abit of remission). I am on disability and spend alot of time...
Long term plans to get chickie's in the spring - backyard laying 3-4. As for now, learning and observing so by spring ... I should be more than ready. Really looking forward to hanging out on your site! Linda
