    Hen pecking another's feathers out

Okay thanks a lot. I ordered some pinless peepers. I notice the vaseline gives her some comfort but it is messy. I have some mite powder which I have put away from their food and laying areas. In the corners.

    Hen pecking another's feathers out

I do have some mite killer but I do not see the others with the problem. Don't they all get mites as a flock? And wouldn't the constant spraying of Blue Kote kill them?

    Hen pecking another's feathers out

Thanks. I have considered it but want to avoid it. I have just ordered some pinless peepers which will be here in a few weeks. Perhaps that will work!

    Hen pecking another's feathers out

Why? I can see the bully pecking her and there is no indication of mites.

    Hen pecking another's feathers out

One of my hens is being bullied by another. All of her back feathers are gone due to the pecking, around her vent and lower. Her bottom is completely bare. I spray her bare bottom with Blue Kote and smear Vaseline on it as it is red and sore. Does anyone know something I can apply to the...

    Prolapsed vent

Thanks! When you are a first time chicken owner it is frightening to see such a thing! I wanted to help someone else who will experience this. I have no doubt that she laid an egg that was so large that it stretched her out. She and all the girls are not lacking calcium as I have a bowl of...

    Prolapsed vent

Just wanted to share my experience with a prolapsed vent. A month and a half ago I had no idea what it was. I saw a red part the length of my thumb hanging from Maggie, my 1 year old Barred Rock hen…a large, healthy hen! I flew to my computer and discovered what it was. I had no idea what...

    Unknown problem

Thanks a lot. My vet agreed to take a look at her and it is a blow out alright. We decided against sutures due to a possible egg and she was xrayed. It showed nothing but she did lay an egg the next day to my surprise. She has been in a darkened room in my house for five days. I got a lot...

    Unknown problem

One of my hens has a mess of feces on her behind and a red portion that looks like a thumb hanging out. I have tried to catch her to no avail. She is a year old and otherwise healthy and is eating and drinking normally. Does anyone know what's wrong with her? I am a first time chicken owner...

    Eye problem

I don't think it is an injury. She has had it for weeks. And she has none of the symptoms of a respiratory illness, such as coughing, sneezing or nasal drip. Just the swollen red ear lobes and eye. Otherwise she is acting normally. And the other four seem fine. I will take your advice and...

    Eye problem

I finally got my Terramycin in the mail and yesterday I decided to try and apply it. I threw a towel over her and swaddled her in it. It was too easy. But then she kept closing her eye and God knows how much I got in. Today she saw the towel and the chase was on. I have applied two...

    Eye problem

I have 5 Plymouth Barred Rock hens who are 25 weeks old. The smallest of them has an eye problem. Several weeks ago, I noticed that she was closing her left eye several times. I did not worry too much as I assumed it was perhaps pecked at or the result of an accident. It does not appear to...
