We’re just observing now, though I did buy some needles just in case. I finally got some photos of the other kind of odd egg she usually lays. It’s pretty consistently this shape when it’s not the normal one or the mended egg
Thanks for all the responses :)
Yeah, I usually don’t try to bother them in hot weather. My mom is the current care taker for the birds, since life has been super hectic for me of late. I just happened to have a rare moment to check up on them, so I took the opportunity. She didn't seem to be...
She lays daily, it’s hot right now so all the hens are panting, and usually by the time I catch her, she’s also panting :( Maybe I’ll have to sneak a camera up to the roost.
she’s super active, and lays daily. Her eggs are sometimes kind of odd, sometimes they look like they had a crack...
One of my girls has had a bit of a bare bottom for a while, and I finally checked her out today as she’s super skittish and very hard to catch. It is squishy. Does this seem like water belly? She’s very active and doesn’t seem sick in anyway, which was also another reason I didn’t check on this...
Sorry for your loss, I always make sure weak chicks get syringe fed a bit of yolk + sugar water every few hours and kept very warm. They will usually perk up in a day or two
if the auto turner fails you can actually “turn” by propping one side of the incubator higher for a tilt effect. alternate sides several times a day. should work with most incubators
I never had luck with adding humidity for dry hatch lockdown. Always ended up with sticky chicks. Now I just dry hatch all the way (or add a bit of water if humidity dips below 25), but generally 30-40ish all the way has given me good results
I do this all the time(kind of) with quail eggs, pointy side down with shipped eggs. Dry hatch it from beginning to end. ofcourae my curious butt will still candle them. Hatch rates are usually pretty high
This would be way too expensive and niche to be available on a general public scale. I think I read about this too, but likely it’s only a lab experiment or available commerically
Oh nooo, sorry to hear. I know nothing about button quails, but all the cortunixes in the past that I’ve had scalped sprung right back. My scalped female grew all her feathers back and you cant tell she’s ever been scalped. I had the male isolated for a few weeks, then let him out last week for...
3 week old chicken chicks (silkie polish mix) in a brooder with 4week and 2 week old quail chicks.
4 week old is “head hen”, terrorizing the little ones the moment they were introduced, no surprises there. The Polkies grew up with juvie quail and her siblings so they get along very well. But...
