I'm curious if anybody ferments Nutrena Naturewise layer feed? The bag states that it has probiotics in it, and fermenting makes probiotics. Does anybody ferment Naturewise and does it make it a better feed?
Thank you for the great information. I was collecting eggs several times a day and immediately incubating them. I'm sure it disturbed the temps some with the other eggs. So after I collect eggs, I can store them at 60F and wait 5-6 days :) Makes things much easier.
I guess I should re-word my question.
Will 60F temps "kill" the fertilized egg? For instance, if a chicken lays an egg (let's assume fertilized) at 12pm, and it is cool outside 60F and I pick it up at 7pm will it ruin it's chances of developing/hatching because it was in 60F temps for so...
I was very specific that I didn't want to discuss the ethics about this - but rather just the techniques used. Once again, your reply is not discussing the topic and baiting me to go into the ethics.
I stated in my first post that chickens ARE cannibals, they do LOVE to eat blood, and the...
All of my breeds are getting them off. Wyandottes, Leghorns, buffs, RIR's... I think what the problem is - is that I tried to save a buck and ordered some that shipped from China. Okay, I believe that some stuff from China is good and some junk, but woe is me, I didn't pay close attention to...
Yes, every day I stir the feed and use the same spoon for each bucket. I transfer like 3 tablespoons each time to other buckets so everything is slopped together.
I ordered a bunch of pinless peepers from Ebay. We put them on some of our flock and installed them correctly. Many of the birds through several days manage to get them off. I'm really trying here to not debeak but I am getting very close to having to. I don't know of another solution ATM...
Okay, so now we have had great results with the fermented feed. Our usage is down about 30%. My next question many be tougher. Does it really matter which brand we start fermenting.
Here's the reason.
We can get Dumor at $12.99 a bag for layer pellets.
We can also go to a local feed...
Family, friends, but mostly give them to people at church. Now that's out of the way
Not trying to be ugly, but this kind of hijacks my thread. But to answer, family & friends get free eggs, but mostly people at our church & homeschool group. We also hatch a lot of chicks and raise meat...
We must all face a reality that chickens do have a pecking order and are often very mean and cruel animals to each other. Even the healthiest chickens given the best nutrients and feeds out there ---DO NOT CARE--- and will often on occasion kill another chicken. I've been raising chickens for...
I know it is "ideal" to use tap water that has been sitting out overnight to de-chlorinate the water. The thing I was thinking about was "why does it matter" if you are fermenting for 5 days anyway?
If I put feed into tap water and stir it daily, by approx 12 hours or so the chlorine will...
