Trying to figure out a breeding plan for my valleys. I have a very productive quad on there finished there second year which is a Ohio strain And 2 trio finished ther first year from a Michigan strain. I kept back 3 males and 2 females From the Ohio strain and about 10 hens from the Michigan...

Haven't any luck with keeping more then a trio in a smaller breeding pen. But have had larger numbers in larger pens but usually then it was more like 2 to 1

Would a better project not be improve each specie ? Not a big fan of cross breeds at all!

They eat mostly vegetarian food in the wild only a small amount of insects.

How do you vent sex quail want to save some for breeding?

I keep mine around 45 to 55% and no more then 60 to 65 % at lock down. It's the eggs are not good or the incubator may have been running hot maybe. I get around 90% hatch or better from my own eggs and usually much less from shipped eggs as low as 20%
