    Blue or self blue?

Thank you! 😊 I’ve hatched at least 15 chicks from the white grandmother (crossed with a black rooster), and I only get black chicks from her. 😊

    Blue or self blue?

(Sorry for the bad English, it’s not my first language and I refuse to use ChatGPT 😂) Is this very-backyard chick blue or self blue? MOTHER: His mother is a bantam hen, and I have no blue in any of my bantams. One of my bantams is a self blue/lavender Mille fleur, and several of the other...

Genetics question - blue chick with red spot on head

It ended up blue with some copper leakage, if I remember correctly. 😊

    Sexing peachicks (8 weeks)

Any guesses on their sex? In two days they will be 8 weeks old. I think two boys and two girls, but I’ve never had peachicks before.

Chicks die at day ~10 of incubation

I currently have 8 peafowl eggs and 8 Brahma eggs in my incubator. Five of the peachicks died around day 10 of incubation (but all the Brahmas are developing). What do you think the reason could be? Inbreeding, disease, something else? I don’t know anything about the parents (they are not my...

Help! Egg bound serama (broken egg)

Update: The hen is doing well! I’ve moved her back into her flock. She eats and drinks as normal. She’s still not as energetic as she used to, but she’s not lethargic anymore. 😊

Help! Egg bound serama (broken egg)

Thank you so much for your help! 💛 She’ll stay in the bathroom for the next couple of days. I don’t care if she gets sterile, I just hope she’ll be okay. Unfortunately she’s quite fragile - she is less than 2/3 the size of a regular serama, and she needed special care as a chick as well. She...

Help! Egg bound serama (broken egg)

I actually found some amoxicillin and meloxicam from when my cat had an infection, so I gave her that with some water. 😌🤞

Help! Egg bound serama (broken egg)

Thank you! I’ll buy calcium. 😊 What kind of antibiotics? I live in Norway, and vets/md’s are quite restrictive about antibiotics here. 😌

Help! Egg bound serama (broken egg)

My serama got egg bound today. The yolk was running down her feathers/feet, and a deformed egg stuck out of her vent. After a warm bath, this thing came out (I didn’t drag it out, she managed to push it out herself with just a little bit of help): She ate and drank afterwards, but she still...

My smallest egg so far (3 g, 2 cm)

No, I’m saving it for my strange-egg-collection. 😅 But if she continues to lay these ridiculous eggs, I’ll have to try to make the world’s smallest fried egg 😂

My smallest egg so far (3 g, 2 cm)

My serama just laid the tiniest egg I’ve ever seen: approximately 3 grams (my kitchen scale doesn’t weigh milligrams so I don’t have the exact weight) and 2 cm long. 😅😂🥰 I just had to share the pictures with you!

Nine cockerels or nine pullets, or too soon for sexing?

Update: Only two of them turned out to be cockerels at 7 weeks. I think the other seven are pullets, unless some of them are really late bloomers. 😊 Pictures of one of the cockerels and one of the pullets:

Nine cockerels or nine pullets, or too soon for sexing?

These silkie/booted bantam crosses look identical to me at three weeks. Is it too soon for sexing, or do you think I’m really lucky/unlucky with my hatch? (I will post updated pictures in a couple of weeks)

    Genotype of Norwegian Jærhøns?

I agree! 🥰 I got some bantam jærhøns hatching eggs this summer, and they turned out to be the friendliest hens I’ve ever had. They are really trusting, curious, cold hardy and surprisingly good fliers. They even started laying at around 16 weeks, so they seem a good breed to continue breeding...
