My ducks do that on occasion. Sometimes when I try to feed them from my hand, one will look like she wants to eat it, but it's almost like she can't stop herself from lunging up the arm instead. Like maybe they get excited by the food and they have this automatic reaction they can't control...
I would like to know more about how you did this. My Blue Swedish has not taken a break from laying in three years and she is having trouble molting and only lays "softies" now. Thank you!
Liquid projectile poo is one of the duck facts of life that no one tells you about ahead of time! Don't worry! Sounds like you have it under control. You might want to back off the protein amount if they are going to be pets. They don't need that much unless you are raising them for meat...
Hello duck people!
I have a small flock of three ducks that are four years old. Two Black Swedish and one Blue Swedish. The problem is with the Blue Swedish hen. She hasn't molted her primary wing feathers since she grew her adult feathers! So three years later they are just like sticks on the...
I am designing one now, similar size. Using Behlen plastic 8' diameter, 2' deep stock tank, and three 55 gallon plastic food grade drums for filters. Still working on how to connect everything and the right pump. Thinking a solar pump with battery backup so it still runs at night.
I mix soft white wheat berries and oats into a pre-made feed (McGeary's organic Maintenance feed). Metzer's has a calculator that will you formulate a mix to the desired protein content. I found McGeary's to be higher in protein than I wanted for my four pet ducks so I reduce the protein by...
I used the same idea as the original poster of this thread, but instead of a drawer I used a shallow plastic storage bin. I built a ramp up to it using shavings. The have no problem using it and they are only four days old. I used coated hardware cloth for the screen. Found that on Amazon.
I've spent a lot of time watching my new ducklings and I thought they were biting at each other, then I realized they were just eating food that was stuck to their feathers! They're so messy!
