Quote: Thanks! Yes, those are the folks with the Dominiques that I mentioned earlier. Mrs. Yonder is picking up the new pullets today so it's sort of up to her. I've been advocating for the Dominiques but she seems to not want to drive so far so she might end up with the mystery "red pullets"...

Quote: Truth is sometimes stranger than fiction. When the hawk disappears at dusk, a real owl takes his place stalking my coop.

Well we've got the hardware cloth around the bottom of the run now. That hawk has been back. He just sits on the tree stump, boldly, inches away from the chicken wire. He makes noises almost like he's either trying to lure the pullets to him or psyche them out. Grrrrr. Hopefully he'll give up...

Oh my.... The pullets were making an awful noise back in the run. They've only been out there a few days. A big hawk was sitting by the run, inches from the wire. Ran out and shooed him off. Found one of our girls dead by the wire. The hawk had gotten its beak through the chicken wire and...

Can I keep my chicken a secret?

Quote: My in-laws live in a very restrictive HOA neighborhood in Durham, NC. For awhile, they were raising chickens in a coop constructed in their bedroom closet. Personally, I didn't like going to their house because of the smell. That may have been because of poor coop maintenance (very...

I have a fever, and the only prescription is more chickens. My kids are finally old enough to not be underfoot all the time, and actually pretty darned helpful, so we went ahead and started our first chicken coop in north Raleigh... which might be done as soon as tomorrow. We've got four...

Raleigh, NC - May 17 - Urban Chicken Coop Tour

Years later, after many distractions, I have my chickens. We picked up four red pullets at Tractor Supply in Knightdale yesterday and coop construction will begin shortly. I would have gotten more than four, but that's all they had left. Once the coop is up, I'll likely be looking for more.

Article in Today's Paper on Backyard Chicks - Mentions this Website

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but the mention of this site in the article is what brought me here. I found that article trying to google around and figure out the legality of keeping chickens in Raleigh city limits. I live on a 1/3 acre lot in north Raleigh. We moved in a year ago...

Raleigh, NC - May 17 - Urban Chicken Coop Tour

Hello. I just signed up on this forum to figure out what the legality is of keeping chickens in city limits in Raleigh. I live within city limits up in north Raleigh but in an older neighborhood that has no pesky HOA. I've heard that you can have hens but no roosters but nothing...
