Hi all; I have two 14 month old ducks running around my garden; over the last week or so one has been seeming agitated in the evenings. She holds her head in close to her body and fluffs herself up, quacking loudly! This only seems to happen for the 30 mins or so before they go into their...
We can’t let them stay out longer; we’re in a foxy area (farm land) unfortunately.
I’ve constructed a plastic barrier to divide the water and bedding area; I plan on monitoring their water throwing habits in the next week or so!
Rjohns39 - do yours have access to outside over night? Mine are literally in a hit with their bedding.
I feel dreadful leaving them without water for such a long period of time; especially as they root in the straw.
I’m wondering if they would be ok if I took the water out at 8pm or so; but...
Hi all,
Can anyone advise me on keeping my duck house dry...
My two ducks put themselves in their hut around 4pm, as it gets dusky, and are locked in by 6pm; we don’t get them out until 9.30am so have to have a water drinker in with them. Lately they’ve been throwing water around and soaking...
An update; the clipped wing doesn't seem to be giving our duck any issues so far, we kept him out of water for 48 hours and kept a close eye on him. He seems to be ok in himself, thank goodness.
Thank you for all the help!
Also, am I doing the right thing keeping him out of water for a day or so?
He has a deep tub to dunk his beak etc but it's too small for him to get in!
Plus his usual fountain drinker.
Thank you; I guess I was worried the feather would keep bleeding into itself - internal
Bleeding I guess - maybe I'm just panicking!
I applied pressure and it clotted at the end - I had in mind if it didn't I'd get the cayenne pepper out - duck wouldn't have appreciated it but he'd have...
Hi all, I posted in a real panic earlier in the emergencies thread, basicallly my poultry loving neighbour helpfully clipped my ducks wings today, but cut too high and had made my poor duck bleed. I applied pressure and it began to clot, I've just been out to the ducks pen; the bleeding has...
I've just been out to the ducks pen; the bleeding has stopped and has clotted/clogged up at the end of five (my poor duck!) feathers.
He is still ok in himself.
I can pen the ducks away from the pond so I can keep him out of water for a day or two. They are used to a drinker that they can't...
some advice required; our helpful neighbour has clipped our ducks wing, one is now bleeding - well it was dripping but now seems to be clotting. I assume he hit the blood feathers - 5 or 6 - other than keeping an eye on him, the duck that is, is there anything I need to do?
He's had a few grapes...
