Hi all,
Our hen has started sounding like she is crowing. She is also gasping a bit. Her crop feels full and pendulous. She seems to be isolating herself from the flock. Any suggestions?
Both have hatched and are now out thriving with mum. The one who only had a tiny pip, zipped not long after this photo and came into the world. The other one was shrink wrapped and would have never gotten out on its own, so I assisted, yolk was all absorbed, had to use a warm wet cotton ball to...
Mama hen decided after almost 72 hours of sitting on her newly hatched chicks, she’d had enough. She successfully hatched 5. Problem is, there were two that were half hatched when she got off the eggs. I have popped them in the incubator, but am unsure if they are shrink wrapped. I don’t have...
She does dust bathe yes. And her preening gland looks normal now, but when I squeeze it, not much comes out. I don’t think it is operating to its full capacity, but I also think in her old age, she is starting to neglect herself a bit. It’s not very often I see her preen herself at all.
Did you ever find out how the Cornish cross is going?
Our old girl is still going strong. Took her to the vet and got some antibiotics. She still has the thickened skin around her preening gland, and I don’t think she grooms herself properly due to age. Is there a way I can help her clean herself?
Anyone ever experienced anything like this on their chickens? This is our old girl we inherited, at least 6-7 years old. She doesn’t seem to really use her preening gland like she should. Her skin is flakey and peely all the time. The vet prescribe Baytril, and now we are about to try Doxy. Any...
I didn’t have to drain it on our hen, it was hard and flat, and thick. Almost like a callous. She still has a very small scab there, but it continues to improve. I covered their perch in a pool noodle which has helped a lot. Progress was slow as I changed their perches in their house and didn’t...
I’m not sure if chickens can get pyoderma, I have no idea. This thickened skin and the wound on it isn’t oozing pus, and there hasn’t been any pus, just the oily residue

Soaked it in saline each day and cleansed with chlorhexadine. For approx 4-5 days in a row and the tissue healed over after the damaged tissue pealed away. Her foot is now perfectly healthy ☺️ thank you so much for your advice!
Has anyone seen anything like this thickened raised skin on our chookies back? The feathers are missing as she is a favourite of our rooster, I’ve just put a saddle on her. The skin is red and swollen. It’s also really delicate, when I was investigating, this wound tore right open 😭 and inside...
