Mine are 14 weeks and I think one is laying fairies. Seems way too young but my mature hens have all laid today....so it's got to be from a little one....
Hi there,
I have 4 RIRs who are a 14 months old. They have all been steadily laying regular sized eggs since last October. In June we added 4 EE pullets to the flock. The EEs are currently 14 weeks old, but we added them all together (under a very watchful eye) to the flock around 8 weeks...
Does Shake-Away make freak the hens out or do they seem to not notice it? We have squirrels getting in the hen house during the day. They are stealing bedding, food and maybe eggs.
I have put mine up on pallets. Then stuffed the spaces of the pallets with wood chips and layered straw on top of that. I stacked straw bales around the entire outside and will tarp the front entrance during the winter months. I have a heat light that is hung from the ceiling and will turn on...

They run to me...
I have this coop too. I had to put plastic on the side of the nesting boxes to keep the rain from coming in. I am OK with this for a summertime coop, but I am really worried about it for the winter.
Hi all! I know it's still July, but I am already freaking out about the approaching cold weather. I live in MN and last year we had a horribly cold winter.
This is my first flock of 5 RIRs and I just want to make sure they are OK. We purchased the Precision Pet Old Red Barn Chicken Coop and...
Hi all! I am new to raising chickens. I have 5 RIR chicks who are 8 weeks old. I work from home doing social media and online marketing for transportation companies, and when I get my work done (or need a break) I enjoy going out and visiting with my girls. I also have a very small garden...
I have a new flock of 5 chicks. They are 8 weeks old and have now decided to sleep in the nesting box. They were all roosting at night, but we have had a few chilly nights of 50-60 degrees. Is it ok to let them do that for awhile until they are bigger or should I try and kick them out of...
