8 week old black australorps. I know they say they are a heat and cold hardy breed, but even though they have lots of big trees to go under, we get alot of sun and heat where i live, so i want to keep them as cool as possible.
during humid and hot temperatures aside from the shade, is it ok to put sprinkled ice on the floor where the chickens lay for keeping them cool? Also i heard people sometimes dip their feet in water to keep them from overheating, does that work aswell?
one of my black australorps has been keeping her beak open whenever she walks around in the sun or for too long, while the other only opens her beak sometimes. it is around the 90's and fairly windy where i am, but they have plenty of shade in their coop and many big trees and places to go under...
my 7 week old chickens are sneezing a bit, they dont have any discharge from the beak or any other disease or sickness but it has been windy lately and they do take dirt baths and go in straw alot. Will their sneezing stop? or should i give them something for their sneezing?
Is letting your chickens graze and eat dirt and rocks and grass the equivalent of feeding them grit? or is buying grit a must for chickens? i know that it helps them digest the food.
