Your chicks can have access to the yard once they know where to roost at night - in other words, their house. To establish their house, leave them penned up for 4-5 days or better yet a week. Make sure they are old enough to stay the weather and if not, use a heat lamp. They can eat bugs as soon as they can catch one! :-D Oh and welcome to BYC
