Sadly, no (I wish!). Those are some wild Mallards in a nature preserve. I'm a bird watcher as well as a poultry keeper! But this year I might be getting some Welsh Harlequin ducks! We're looking into it. I'm sold, but let's see what the rest of the family thinks

I love the ducks in your banner! What breeds are they? How long have you been keeping ducks?

They're still nice birds. Thanks! Two of the ducks on my profile banner are Fawn & White Indian Runners and two are Khaki Campbell.
I love Welsh Harlequins especially the silver ones! They are my favorite breed along with IRs and KHs.

They are very pretty! Do you have any advice you would give a hopefully soon-to-be duck keeper? Or a couple reasons why we should get ducks?

Here are the reasons why to get ducks:
Ducks have better personalities than chickens.
Ducklings imprint on people.
Ducks lay a lot of eggs (especially the KH).
The eggs are bigger than chicken eggs.
Ducks love rain.
They are more friendly than chickens.

Tips:
Ducks need water deep enough to dip their head and nostrils.
Avoid sharp or pointed bedding, as they might injure their feet.
Ducklings need extra niacin to support their bone growth.
Ducks need at least 4 sq ft per bird.
The male to female ratio should be at least 1 male to 2 females.

I think we won the debate already! The duck vacuum is hilarious!

Great tips! Do adult ducks need extra niacin too? I hear mixed reports.

Thank you for your time and thoughtfulness!
