    Hi Veb!
    I have 4 hens. Only one is laying at the moment and Deana, my Rhode Island Red (5.5 years old) seems to have stopped laying for good. But she has a job keeping the youngsters in line for as long as she wants. 😉

    I take a plastic ice cream container with a lid, 3/4 fill with water and add whatever I have laying around at the time that I think the chooks will like.
    At different times I have added:
    1/2 a chopped tomato
    halved cherry tomatoes ( both very popular)
    alfalfa sprouts (they weren't too keen on those)
    chopped banana
    chopped apple
    5 or 6 raspberries
    1/2 teaspoon honey
    sultanas
    bird seed

    We have been having some issues with thin shells so I have added some liquid calcium supplement to it the last couple of times too.

    I have a plastic tray in their run and i invert the ice cream container over it and leave until the ice drops out, then I refill the container for the next day. This way they can pick things out of the ice at their leisure and get lovely cold water all day too.

    They had stale torn up bread in honey water in the ice block today which they seemed to enjoy.
