1. Yes, the males especially as their trains can be up to 6ft long. They need a least 100sq feet per bird if penned. I keep mine penned as they love to roam, so the more room the better.

2. Peacocks are pretty loud in the breeding season and will also honk at any loud noises. Their calls can be heard for miles away. Hens are much quieter but can and do make loud honks/call when excited or disturbed. Peacocks are probably too loud for close neighbors so I wouldn't recommend them in the suburbs unless your neighbors also don't mind them. A Peahen or two may work out just fine though.

3. I'm not saying it can't be done, as other's have had chickens hatch out and raise peachicks successfully, but just know peachicks are not hardy like chickens. Many people raise them off the ground for the first couple of months as they are easily susceptible to things like Coccidiosis...

(3 continued) They can't reliably be sexed until a few weeks of age (unless you DNA test) so you could end up with a male if you only get one chick and it would be lonely without friends. Getting an adult or sub-adult peahen or two would probably be better to start. They may get along ok with the chickens or they may not, so it's best to be prepared in case you need to separate them.

I keep mine with chickens and one Peahen will only tolerate a certain hen and rooster in with her, all other chickens she tries to kill. Chickens can also be the aggressors. The one thing to be a worried about is if Blackhead is in your area your chickens could carry it unharmed but it can be deadly to peafowl.
