BackYard Chickens - Learn How to Raise Chickens

Hey! Yeah, so as for females I have two Saxony, two Rouen, and 4 Khaki girls. And males I have one Saxony, one Rouen, and two Khaki boys. So, the Rouen ducks from the feed store are perfect, they are equal to my Saxonys.

Thanks! I’m hoping to start breeding them once they begin laying around April or May. I’ve built two 30’x 30’ pens for breeding and a house. I have plans to build two more here pretty soon. I will have to send a couple of pics or a YouTube video later.

Cool! I've been waiting for mine to lay, they're around twenty weeks old. Weather here hasn't been too bad and the sun is shining, so I'm getting impatient
And I'm getting welshie hatching eggs soon, I'm super excited about that.

Great! The Runners that I hatched out last June began laying around December/January, so that’s about 25-30 weeks. Never know when they’ll start tho. Now I’m getting 8-10 eggs daily, so all my girls are in lay.

I thought about getting welshies as a dual purpose breed, but I decided to buy Khakis for eggs and Saxonys for meat. I like having many breeds tho.

I have two breeds rn, buff and saxony. The welshies are my favorite for their looks.

Yeah, I love my duck eggs mainly for baking, you just can’t beat them. Oh yeah, also my geese are laying eggs now, so that was exciting. Their eggs are insanely huge.

Geese are next on my list! I do kinda want calls tho, they're cute. But I think a few geese would be a better choice.

Yeah, geese can either be sweethearts that will protect you or your other poultry or they can be total jerks. I think it has a ton to do with them being raised by you or brought in as adults. Mine are good protecters of my Runner ducks, but sadly they do not at all do well with my other ducks.

My neighbor had some given to her as adults, she said they were complete jerks. They're fine now, she baby talks them and they're very offended by it.

I found two 3 week old Sebastopol females. I’m really excited, because they will be great to breed with my male since they come from separate bloodlines.

Yeah, I bet given time they realize they shouldn’t bite the hand the feeds them. lol

Ohmagawsh! Those are adorable! Now I want geese, I'll have to see if my neighbors have eggs

Yeah, these girls are kinda going through their ugly phase right now. Lol. They follow me around and talk to be whenever I check on them.
