ein bisschen! I saw you did too and I already thought you were cool but this is amazing 🥲 I just started learning a few months ago so I’m not fluent but I’m trying!

Das ist so cool! Warum lernst du?
Awhh! I’ve been learning for a couple years now, I started before we moved here to Germany, but I don’t have any interest in stopping! It’s good to be around the culture. It helps me learn. :)

Oh my goodness, I just saw my name in your about, that’s so sweet. 😭
You listen to Skillet?

That’s really cool! Ist lernst in der Schule und du?
I had the option to learn Spanish or German and I had actually always wanted to learn German because I loved how the language sounded. I think it’s pretty! It’s awesome that you live there! My parents weren’t too happy I chose German but I don’t care lol. My teacher says ‘wie’ when she’s surprised and I catch myself doing it a lot now 🤦‍♀️

Ich lerne auf Duolingo! I wish I could learn at school though.
It’s funny you think it’s pretty! A lot of people think it sounds harsh because of the throaty sounds.
I tend to say the German word of something (if I know it) when I can’t remember the English version. 🤣

Aw mate..
After talking, I think you are a very cool person too! ❤️

Yes! The first thing I learned was wie heißt du so half the time when I say name or meet people I say hi, I’m Athena, wie heißt du and it’s so cringe when they give me the ‘what’ look. But I practice phrases for homework so it’s just kind of random. I learned some Korean on duolingo but never tried another one because I didn’t like how they taught the Korean. Korean is crazy hard to learn though.

Also as for the harshness, my mom dislikes the language because of it but idk I just like it I’m weird 🤷🏼‍♀️

Yeah, Duolingo apparently has a reputation for not being the greatest way to learn a language, but it’s better than nothing. :)
Duo taught me how to say “Kaffee” first, which isn’t super helpful. 💀
My mom tries to learn a bit too, but she mostly gets it from her environment. Not Duo.

I’m not surprised Korean is hard. Learning a whole different way to print letters sounds tough.

True true. Since I can’t talk to people in German I often find an ai character that is German and have a conversation with them. It’s pretty helpful actually!

I can’t always understand what people are saying, but I have been able to have small conversations with a couple people! It’s the best. ❤️

I’ve always wanted to be multilingual I just thought it was really cool you know. I know a little bit of German and Korean and a few words of Spanish from my dad and sister mainly. But my mom thinks it’s awesome she asks me to randomly go up to people and start talking to them in a different language, and then switch 🤦‍♀️ she has too much fun with it sometimes 🤣

That’s awesome. 😂
The idea of being multilingual sounds amazing to me. The idea became appealing after we moved tho Germany, than then I started watching a multilingual Minecraft server where there were English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, and Korean-speaking people. It was so cool to watch.

That does sound really cool!

So if you start further striving to become multilingual, how many languages do you want to learn? Is there any one in particular you’d focus on the most?
