  • Getting my chickens to roost

I have 8 week old chicks that will not roost, they just sleep on the bottom of the coop. I have been putting them on the roosts at night and they will just jump down and stay on the floor. Is this normal? will they roost or will they never and if never is that o.k?

It is totally normal for pullets to not roost, it's a skill they learn over time. Even if they never roost (which they will), it would be totally fine for them. My guess is they will learn to roost soon, but if you are worried about it, you can go in their after they go to sleep and put them on the perches.
I have 4 week old chicks that do not have a light during the day and are eating and acting fine. My questions are do they still need a heat lamp if the room they are in never goes below 60 degrees? they have been going out during the day for a couple of hours ( i keep them in the coop everyday for 1- 2 hours then let them out into the run. Will they know to go back to the coop at night when I let them out at 6 weeks?
Hello everyone , what are everyone's opinion on the best breeds of chickens for heat and cold tolerance. I live in Virginia and the summers can be quite hot and the winters can be cold. :)
