Hens go broody when you don’t want them to… and won’t go broody when you do. 
Actually the chickens go into the dog pen, and we have so many chickens we can't keep them all penned so most of them are free-roam.

Well if you really wanna know, my dog has killed at least three chickens in the past six weeks, and my neighbor's dog has killed his share too. But the remaining flock is fine.
