    I have a broody hen under a clutch of eggs at about day 18. An egg broke ( either a quitter or a fresh egg another hen sneaked in and laid) and the developing eggs are filthy and stinky. Do I wash them?

    Momma and 2 chicks are 2 weeks old. They hatched in the coop with the rest of my flock of 14, and have been separated from the flock in the same coop and run by some temporary fencing/wiring. When can I take that down?

    Lolol. Yes. We have a rooster. These are eggs from a staggered hatch that we place in an incubator after the hen abandoned when the first chicks hatched. They were out from mom and into the incubator within hours. Candled and alive ten days ago. Another egg pipped then never zipped and died. 😢

    TWO! There are two little chicks in her nest. They look perfect. 😍 Three eggs left. It’s been 24 hours since the first hatch so I’m looking at a staggered hatch here. When should I pull those eggs to candle for progress/viability?

    so the entire front third was open with membrane only. No back side zipping. No idea how chick did that. But she was shrink wrapped in. Cut open the membrane and s/he’s tucked under mama now.

    I lifted up my broody and saw two eggs- one has the front cracked up and I hear chirping. I think another has pipped. If only the front is being cracked open by the chick do I worry about the back of the egg? Could I have messed everything up by lifting her up to check on the eggs?

    Both! But she’s acting extra broody the past two days tucked even deeper into the nest, super defensive of her space. Didn’t even let any of the other gals in to lay extra eggs. We’re around day 20, with questionable dates since we got home from vacation to a broody.
