    Fires

I live in washington state too. We do have smoke smell here. And I am worried about my chickens. As far as we know, the fires are not set by arsonists. There were false claims of this and false information but debunked. It may be a couple are, but the bulk is our severely dry weather and winds.

    19wk Chuckoo Maran not recovering!

We have ordered vitamins and something for respiratory infection online. We couldn’t get a vet appointment any time soon. So we are hoping we are not too late once the supplement and medicine. But I fear she is slowly dying and I feel terrible about it. Thank you for asking.

    19wk Chuckoo Maran not recovering!

Thank you again for your help. We have called around to many places and the soonest she can be seen is the end of the month. Her mouth seems clear of anything that looks odd. She was vaccinated for Mareks. She hasn’t had bubbles or watery eyes. She is getting weaker and her eyes are closing...

    19wk Chuckoo Maran not recovering!

Thank you. I will try to get a video up here. Where do you get vitamins for chickens? We are new to chickens and do not know how to ”put them out of their misery”.

    19wk Chuckoo Maran not recovering!

Thank you for your sympathy. The temps are quite cool yesterday and today. So we are not having to deal with that. I have been giving her bits of egg, cucumber and watermelon. She will only eat a bite here and there and drink when we hold the container to her. She doesn’t act parched though. She...

    19wk Chuckoo Maran not recovering!

Jane had a hard time with the heat last week. She was panting and not eating much. We did all kinds of things to help her, many advice taken from on here that worked for all the other birds but not her. She seemed to hurt her legs while she was stumbling around a bit when she became dehydrated...

    Heat Wave in WA

Sounds like you have a good brood. I have one RIR and she is doing okay despite the heat. We started with 19 in April and now have 8. We had 6 males and only kept one. One passed away the day it arrived. And 2 have passed on with a mysterious illness a couple months ago. We are learning a lot as...

    Heat Wave in WA

Thanks again. WOw, that is hot where you are. I am serious what breeds you have. The CM is a larger bird with plenty of feathers. The smaller birds with less feathers are doing better. Good to know that laying around panting is good : )

    Heat Wave in WA

They have lots of deep shade. And I have checked her feet and they look normal. The only thing is that her “toes” curl under sometimes. They seem weak.

    Heat Wave in WA

I have put Jane in her own little area under the coop. And made it all deep shade. I thought as her left leg is weak she needed to be separated and also not able to move around so much. She is in her own little 4x4 area under the coop and the other birds can see her. My two Silver Laced...

    Heat Wave in WA

Thank you again for your help. I do have a large pan in there that that walk into, but a little pool would be even better. Jane (Chuckoo Maran) is limping and I think she may have sprained one of her legs when she was all wobbly yesterday. Is that possible?

    Heat Wave in WA

Thank you all! These are great ideas. I am freezing water bottle tonight. I will get some kind of pen for my garage, which is not near as hot. They have a great coop and run under a huge cedar tree, so mostly good shade as well as shade under the coop. I am doing electrolytes in the water, and...

    Heat Wave in WA

We are expecting high 90s this weekend. I have 8 19 week old chickens. My Chuckoo Marans has been panting at 80 degrees and today her mouth is open a lot. On hot days I have been putting out a large pan of water with ice cubes in it as well as giving them cucumber and watermelon. It is not doing...
