I think it might just be a coincidence or something particular to your birds. Mine are all dark and they have varying crest sizes. Something else that I am working to standardize a bit with my group!

Females can have head spots too. Usually they are small and are contained within the V of the chipmunk stripping. Chick #1 looks female. Chick #2 is possibly female with some unclear auto sexing. In the first pic you posted it looks male with the diffuse head spot. In the 2nd pic it looks more...

From what I can tell from the pics they look cream to me.

    Cream Legbars

My understanding is that the only expression you will see is cream or gold. You can't tell if they are heterozygous for cream unless you do some breeding trials. A heterozygous cream bird will look gold. That particular hen looks gold to me.

I believe sol2go has said that there are correlations between chick down and adult color. I am still unclear but that doesn't mean their isn't a correlation, I am just not seeing it with my group, which is more melanized than I would like and they all look very similar. I hope to see some...

I think he is probably a he too. Looks exactly like how my male chicks feather in and at three weeks the females usually have more feathers. The boys are so slow to feather.

Feather stubs crop up in lots of breeds. I wouldn't use him in my breeding program either but that doesn't necessarily mean he isn't a pure Cream Legbar.

I know that the two on the left are pullets. I know that one of dark ones is a cockerel. I believe that all three of the dark ones are cockerels but I want to wait a bit before I say they are for sure. I have more in the incubator to test the theory further.

The colors on mine have varied too. It seems like they start laying with a very deep greenish blue and then lighten over time. Right now my four original hens lay a bluer egg than green. At least to my eye, and it is lighter and not so saturated.

I think photos can be really misleading. Colors change so much due to lighting etc. For example this is the same egg on two different backgrounds: The bottom pic is the more accurate color. It is pretty but not robin's egg blue like it appears in the first pic! These four eggs are from my...

There could be several reasons why your eggs aren't fertile. If he is young, some of the older hens may not be letting him breed. It could just be lack of experience on his part or he may have a physical issue preventing him from mating properly. I have a large Orpington cockerel that has a...

Yes, I have made lots of sexlinks by crossing my Legbar cock on silver laced wyandottes. Here is a pic of three pullets: males: Female chicks are reddish and males are darker with a silver hue and have yellowish faces. I have also crossed CLB with Golden Cuckoo Marans not Cuckoo Marans. Here...

The breeder may believe she is pure but clearly she is not. Pure CLBs do not lay white eggs. The two shell colors are white and blue. Pigment is added to that. So she is mostly likely mixed with a white egg layer somewhere along the way. Possibly a brown leghorn since they look quite a lot like...

I am north of Missoula but maybe we could work something out some time. My husband travels to Butte on occasion. Are you near Billings?

I sold a few cockerels last year and one this year for $5 a piece. No one really knows what they are around here and I sold them as roosters with the blue egg gene. Which is fine with me because if I am selling them, I don't consider them worth breeding for Cream Legbars. We have lots of small...

It is possible. It looks like she might have extra toes. Hatchery Favs can be all sorts of colors and with or without muffs and beards. It is possible she isn't either. Do you have a side shot not in the red light?
