I don’t have any plans to expand my flock right now. I may breed next spring but I’d have to separate the 2 groups as I’d only want to hatch out the SFH’s.
We shall have to see how busy I am come spring though. I would love to have a few more SFH pullets but I am definitely not in any hurry.
Yeah, I took a big chance, but I am quite relieved it seems to be working out pretty well. Not a single bantam has been injured by the bigs, chased occasionally yes, harassed a bit, but never injured. The more time that passes the less they fuss with each other. I think we are reaching a balance...
Yes, all my full sized chickens are SFH’s. His color is Black Snöleopard. Many BYM’s have similar colors because the breed is a landrace breed and has no set colors. The only real constant is that they always have speckles(flowers).
Mugs for Monday
Porcini out in front
Thyme
Twofer Tuesday
Gia and Gemma
The bantams are starting to all flock together more and more and Pebble is finally beginning to act like a good Roo and look after everyone.
Thyme and all the SFH’s are doing so well. They stick together but don’t...

I agree with the general lack of information. There is so much missing information on chickens tbh. One would think we would know everything there is to know about them by now but sadly the vast majority of the studies are done on commercial chickens which sometimes is relevant but often isn’t...
I hope they never do learn, almost every day I chicken sit she hops up to say hello. Juniper does too but not as consistently as Chervil. Thyme does as well only very occasionally, he’s to busy trying to woo the girls now.
Mug Monday
Speaking of Chervil, she says hello to everyone at FBA...
Challenge accepted!
Temptation 1 - First up hands down personal favorite (they would revolt if I didn’t include them) Swedish Flowers
Temptation number 2 - Shetland because they are adorable and they lay blue/green eggs.
Temptation number 3 - double silver laced Barnies because omg they are...
Today, I let the flock free-range in the yard. Chervil, the queen of charm, always hops up when I chicken sit and says hi. After a quick headcount, I turned to head inside, but the whole gang trailed me like, “Hold up, don’t go!” Laughing, I turned back to chat with them, and Chervil locked...
Some sad news -
Roxy passed, no sign of any predation, we found her in the coop. She had that odd neurological thing when she was a very tiny chick though but it cleared up after just a few days. I thought she had overcome that challenge but apparently not something was just not right. :(...
A brief flock update:
Pebble has decided that attacking people may not be working for him and has calmed down thankfully. He now only does it when herded which he still really objects to. I can work with that.
The SFH’s are all grown up. I think all the girls are laying now. Thyme is a...
