Good morning!
I recently had to buy new mason jars for canning. I know not to use the same seal/lid more than once but buying new jars I assumed I could use the lids that come with the jars. But the out of package jars are closed soooo tightly that the seal on the lid looks indented. Are they...
quick question: I visited my friends coop to help with some chicken based concerns they were having. Before going back to my own coop how can I disinfect myself to make sure I’m not carrying any diseases including mereks back to my flock? I have changed my shoes and clothing as well as wiped my...
Probably a very stupid question but can I give my chickens pure canned pumpkin? I googled it and google says no because there is too much sugar and too many additives. The can I have says 100% pure canned pumpkin and the sugar is 3G per 1/3 of a cup which doesn’t seem like an outrageous amount...
She gets a 18% layer crumble as daily feed. There are 3 additional feeders. 1 with grit that is always available, 1 with oyster shells that are always available. They don’t eat much of either very often. The grit I need to refill once every 2 months and the oyster shells I don’t even fill all...
Amazing thank you! Should I be giving her 10-20 ml once daily? And would it be safe to still add an electrolyte mix to the communal waterer or is that overboard lol. The stuff I used to put in their water is just a bunch of different vitamin powders.
Yes please I’d love the recipe if you’re able to share! I occasionally give them electrolytes that I bought at the feed store but they expired last month and I haven’t re purchased any. She’s been getting excited for the water in the run in the morning up until a few days ago when she turned...
No I have no rooster and usually Daisy is the one beating on everyone else especially at night. I checked her feathers and none seem to be torn up at the ends or broken from picking or anything. Just clean out from the skin. Also no blood. Who knows tho maybe someone went after her like a...
Also! Almost all of her clay coloured poops have been solid with a white cap. That one I was poking around in it looking for something. Every once in a while she will poop and it’ll be slightly watery although I’m not sure if I’d classify it as diarrhea since it’s mostly solid?
Hoping for some help with my 2.5 year old azure blue named Daisy. She molted in late September and seemed to be done. She didn’t have a ‘hard’ molt since none of her skin was visible but she did replace what looks like almost all of her feathers.
Last week I noticed reddish clay coloured poop...
I was told the surgery would be around 2 hours. If it starts at 11 she most likely won’t get her next meal until 2ish. I last fed her at 9:30. 9:30pm-2pm the next day seems like a long time to go without food for an already sick bird in dire condition. I’m glad to hear that I do not have to fast...
Yes, I’ve read they don’t tolerate anesthesia. In her thin frail condition I have been watching her eat all day hoping to give her enough energy to at least make it to the vet let alone survive the anesthetic. The vet seems somewhat confident in his ability to put her under and wake her up since...
The suffering lack of nutrients is what’s rlly got me worried :(. She’s all skin and bone and this surgery is already risky because she has almost no muscle left. I was going to bring her to put her down as I couldn’t find a vet that took chickens. Nothing I was doing was working and my only...
Hi there, I have an incredibly long story that I won’t share unless it happens to be relevant to this question…. Do chickens need to fast before surgery?? My hen is having surgery on a mass in her uterus tomorrow and the vet has not mentioned anything about needing to fast (like humans or other...
Her crop is fully empty at the moment as she’s refusing to eat and she won’t drink so I will have to syringe water to her. If she refuses to eat will I be able to wet and mash her food to syringe that to her as well?
No Lice or mites on her or any other chickens. As well as no strange...
Hi there!
I just got back from a trip to find one of my birds has taken a hard decline. I have had problems with this hen in the past with broody-ness, temperament issues, and crop blockages. All of which were treated and she has been getting on fine. About 2 months ago she stopped laying...
