Any one in NY or PA use mulch in their run?

I'm not in NY nor PA, but hope I can chime in as well. I've been using woodchips, that I obtain free from the MetroParks, and have no complaints. It keeps the grounds relatively dry, during the rainy season, and does wonders during the winter months. I let it build up for about 2-3 seasons...

    New Chicken Owners

:welcome!!! I, too, love to sleep in, but ever since getting a flock, I find it joyful to get up with them to start the day off...actually, the 6 roosters I have, give me no other options when they decide to see who can crow the loudest each morning. We also have 3 dogs..a Chow Chow, Siberian...

What did you do in the garden today?

I made sure I watered the tomatoes, okras, radishes, squash, and whatever else was growing out there; I really couldn't tell since the rain was pouring down so heavily.

    Broody hen advice

My main point was, we shouldn't stress too much about our flocks. They are more resilient than we give them credit for. I was in the same mindset as you, when I first started raising my own chickens..started with 6, lost a few, now up to 37 with more to come. Each one is treated as pets, with...

    Broody hen advice

Well, out in nature, there is no human intervention, so I believe the hens will know how to handle things. It makes it easier for them when we help, but nature knows best.

Yeah, the wife forced me to buy a 3-wheeler after we had a minor spill on my Roadglide Special. She tried to break the fall and broke 2 bones in her left hand. Told me that the only way she'd go riding with me again was if the bike had 3 wheels.....

OHio ~ Come on Buckeyes, let me know your out there!

It comes and goes...right now, I can tell that it's returning since both my big toes, on each foot, feels swollen and my right ankle feels broken. I guess it didn't help that I spent the weekend at all-you-can-eat buffets eating beef and drinking beers.

    Broody hen advice

I currently have 3 broody hens, with one successfully hatching out 2 eggs (out of the 4 I let her sit on). I kept the mother and chicks, in the same coop, locked up in a separate brooder for about a week..to allow the others to get acquainted with one another. Then I let mother and her hens...

    Hi, I'm Lynne

Hi Lynne :welcome, I'm Knobby. I've lost quite a few of my flock to predators. The first couple of times are the hardest to get over, but then I realized that the predators are doing what comes naturally for them. The best that we can do is to try and make it harder on them. Anyways...

What did you do in the garden today?

Oh, I love rabbit and squirrel! It all depends on how you prepare and cook the meat..that dictates if its gonna be gamy or not. We have alot of both game here on our property, along with whitetails and migratory fowls.

What did you do in the garden today?

Well, we have a pond on our property, so every now I then, I try and dredge it and set aside the contents somewhere else on our property. Over the past few days, have been purposely setting the dredge in a pile close to my garden area with the intent to see if it will be fertile enough to...

    Happy to be here --

Welcome to the forum! I've successfully kept ducks and chickens together peacefully thus far. I just avoid keeping my hens around drakes since I don't want any injuries sustained.
