    I'm not in NY nor PA, but hope I can chime in as well. I've been using woodchips, that I obtain free from the MetroParks, and have no complaints. It keeps the grounds relatively dry, during the rainy season, and does wonders during the winter months. I let it build up for about 2-3 seasons...

    I made sure I watered the tomatoes, okras, radishes, squash, and whatever else was growing out there; I really couldn't tell since the rain was pouring down so heavily.

    Well, out in nature, there is no human intervention, so I believe the hens will know how to handle things. It makes it easier for them when we help, but nature knows best.

    It comes and goes...right now, I can tell that it's returning since both my big toes, on each foot, feels swollen and my right ankle feels broken. I guess it didn't help that I spent the weekend at all-you-can-eat buffets eating beef and drinking beers.

    I currently have 3 broody hens, with one successfully hatching out 2 eggs (out of the 4 I let her sit on). I kept the mother and chicks, in the same coop, locked up in a separate brooder for about a week..to allow the others to get acquainted with one another. Then I let mother and her hens...
