@coach723 this has inspired me to replace those "temporary" roosts with something better, and to get to work on my dream coop immediately! This girl is in my hospital cage right now, and I'm wrapping her perch with clean towels. Before she goes back out though, I'll make sure to fix the perches.
Thank you so much @Wyorp Rock & @coach723 for your help! Schriener's has never let me down, and it has cleared up some truly incredible infections. (I do have antibiotic ointment on hand just in case, but it's still unopened, lol.) Cappuccino is definitely doing better today! It's always a good...
An Epsom salt bath is usually the first thing I do, and it was during the 1st bath that I examined her and discovered the wound(?). I gave her a bath this morning with Betadine and Epsom salts in the water, followed with a non-stick pad and more Schriener's. The dark stuff seems to be dried...
I have an almost-year-old Easter Egger hen who has a nasty, seriously infected wound on her breast that I just discovered. (Chickens are too good at hiding things!!!) She had a nice, long soak in an Epsom salt bath, and then I saturated the entire area with Schriener's solution. (What it is...
“Where there is life, there is hope.” I believe that I got this quote from James Herriot, although I’m not 100% certain. Every time we have a sick or injured animal on our farm, I remind myself, and my son, of this. We absolutely can make a difference with the things that we buy! I buy 2nd hand...
I’m so very sorry for your loss, not everyone understands just how wonderful chickens can be! Butter sounds like a pretty special bird, and she was lucky to have a human who appreciated her. ♥️♥️♥️
Well, I have two bantam chicks that just hatched, one is a bantam cochin x bantam EE, and the other is a bantam cochin. The feed stores in Roswell usually have chicks, TSC gets them in on Tuesdays I think!
I have a bantam cochin hen who is presenting symptoms almost exactly like this, her poop is very wet and greenish in color. Appetite is good, but she really doesn't look well. I'm not sure if her crop is squishy though, I will check first thing tomorrow!
Thank you everybody, she passed away the night of the 7th after seeming to recover somewhat. The evening before she died, she was eating and drinking, and seemed far more alert. Sadly, the next morning I found her with her head bent back over her body, dead. Sigh! Why must it always be my...
Looking for some advice please, Jeremy is a TSC “assorted bantam” bin Silky, who is about 8 months old now. She was laying daily until a few days ago, but something is clearly wrong with her now. When I tossed scratch out this morning, Jeremy didn’t even look at it, and this girl is a snack...
