I had no idea you were in Hawaii! Totally different weather than Wisconsin…. Next week all the lows are below zero.
I’m glad both eggs look good! I hope they both hatch for you. Looking forward to updates.
How are they doing today?
What are your temps like? I’m attempting my first hatch of the year, but expect it to flop. I had frozen eggs several days I was collecting… but some days were warmer. I set 23 eggs.
I did the math and it costs about $8/ dozen to produce eggs- counting labor, feed, shavings, oyster shell, and incidentals. Not counting start up cost and raising the ducks 20 weeks before getting eggs. I DO raise on organic special order feed due to my own allergies though.
I always have people here doing chores twice a day since I have dairy goats…. So I’ve never thought of watering once a day. In the summer, I do use a float valve which makes life so much easier- swish it and forget it.
I use heated water buckets for my ducks. Here in Wisconsin you don’t have much choice- it’s highs in the single digits some weeks, sometimes the high is below zero.
I’m not sure this is the right place to ask, but has anyone gotten chicks/ducklings via speedee? in 2024 I tried to get ducklings through sand hill and after 2 attempts arrived dead I asked them to quit trying. Today I got a letter saying I’ll be getting my order using speedee. Do they actually...
My Sunday afternoon project- I made a 6’x2’ duck porch. I already have a 2’x3’, but with 45 ducks it doesn’t hold enough buckets especially with ice build up this winter.
I started by building a 2’x6 foot frame from 2x4s with 5 braces inside the frame. Covered that in vinyl coated hardware...
1 here too. They must not like being in with the goats 🤷🏻♀️ I re routed them to see how the LGD does with them. She totally ignores them 🥳 She’s been exposed through the fence but not formally trained. So glad she’s behaving!
If you have a water porch they are easier than chickens. Chickens are incredibly dusty, ducks aren’t. But they are messy with water… unless you have a water porch. The water porch is a mesh floored porch off their coop. All water is kept in it so when they spill it all drains away.
