    Peeps in Europe!

I really am sorry for your losses. Yes, it is smart to isolate before bringing them into a current flock. Did any of then new chickens get sick? Sorry, it is so hot today I can't seem to think LOL It could be Infectious Bronchitis or IB for short. They stopf laying and have cold symtoms...

    Are these eggs dead?

yes. If the eggs had a chick in it they would be dark and you wouldn't see as much light. Sorry

    Peeps in Europe!

No, no need to vaccinate for Marek. As soon as they hatch they could have been exposed to the virus. There is nothing you need to vaccinate with a mother hen. In Germany it is mandatory to vaccinate for Newcastle. I don't know if France has mandatory vaccinations. Besides the doses are...

    Peeps in Europe!

I'm so sorry about your hen! Maybe a good option would be to cover the run with netting. Also keeps the hawks out. And you wouldn't need to clip the wings. Of course I don't know your run and if netting is an option.

    Crossbeaked Ameraucanas?

I can't name the source anymore but I did hear that bearded chickens are more prone to having a cross beak than other breads. So that could be your reason for seeing more cross beaked ameraucanas.

    Peeps in Europe!

Oh, sorry. I never did an update! It went really really well. I set 25 eggs. 2 were not fertilized. One died off. The rest hatched! I have never had such a great hatch before! One I had to cull because it kept looking up, couldn't keep it's balance. Tried some Vitamine D complex but it...

    Peeps in Europe!

I set my first bantam eggs yesterday. 25 eggs from 4 hens. The last hen laying laid one egg for me just the day before! Good girl!! I also set 40 bantam Barnevelder for a friend. So exciting! I am wondering how those bantam will be compared to the LF.

    Peeps in Europe!

You know they have to be ready for the shows starting in October. I am also breeding to get more breeders. So if they are "overdone" that is still fine. But I have to make sure they get their immunization. And for that I have to breed for certain dates. It's all different when you want to...

    Peeps in Europe!

There are times I have to use the search to find the thread as well. Even though I subscribed to the thread! Guess it is some bug in the system. Collecting hatching eggs right now. But things are not going well. Only two hens are laying atm. I will set them next week Thursday. I hope to...

Has anyone noticed an attitude difference between incubator clutch and store bought day olds?

Well, think about it. Your chicks hatching in your incubator know nothing but you since they hatched. Store bought chicks hatched were dumped into boxes... picked up again by strange people. Boxed and shipped to a store. Lots of strangers around looking at them. Then picked up and boxed...

    Peeps in Europe!

Almost... I have two roosters and 4 bantam Sulmtaler hens. So 11 birds. I won't be able to have as many chicks due to not having enough hens. Yes, that is why I chose to have bantams. I had an awful time getting the LF ready for the shows. Sulmtaler are pretty big (the rooster can be...

    Peeps in Europe!

Due to difficulties in my life I had to cut down on chickens. I will probably just have the bantam Sulmtaler in the future. I can't quite let them go all the way... I have only one breeding group left 1.4 and 2 bantam groups 2.4.

    Peeps in Europe!

How hard is it to study for the exams to become a poultry judge? I was able to join a poultry judge a couple of weeks ago and it was so much fun. He said I had an eye for it and that I should go for it in a couple of years. (5 years minimum of successful showing is required... couldn't show...
