Maybe it's with age then. Do you remember how old yours was when she got it? I feel like this might be the first year for my girl to have it. She's like 3 years old now.
I was just looking through old photos and found one from November of 2024. She doesn't seem to have the curled feathers at all in these photos but maybe it's just how thick her winter plumage is.🤷♀️
Yeah I can see it a little bit in some pictures. I wonder if because her feathers are so tight to her body it just emphasizes the curled feathers more. Lots of the birds in the pictures have thicker neck feathering.
I'm already busy with a breeding project right now but maybe I can breed her...
So my EE cross that I've had for 3 years or so has a weird hairdew. She has the beard and muffs like typical EE's but also the feathers at the sides of the base of her skull curl and slick back like a greasers hairstyle.
Her father is a Golden duckwing pheonix x Golden Comet cross and her...
My chicks are a little over a week old now and one of the females is worrying me with her breathing. It's very heavy compared to her siblings.
She acts pretty normal but also maybe a bit subdued compared to the others. The last few waterers full I've added some electrolytes but today I added a...
Day 5 in the incubator and they're developing well! Seems like 8 or 9 are viable so far. Took a picture of one being candled and edited it to make the embryo more visible.
Ok I just candled the dozen eggs and we have development! There's a few I'm iffy about and one that developed a crack that I just sealed with wax. I think the crack developed due to humidity.
Put the eggs in the incubator! Some worry me because they still looked kinda scrambled from shipment. Hopefully they'll correct themselves over the next few days.
I'll be candling them again Monday to check their development. But for now pray for their development!
One step closer to a new breed!
Got my eggs today! I'm super excited about them! I've got them resting and I candled them for cracks. I'll put them in the incubator tomorrow night or the day after tomorrow.
Hopefully with the eggs coming soon my dad will finally get the incentive to finish the coop. We're also going to be bringing down our old dog kennel soon from my grandmother's house. My aunt and uncle also offered their old kennel as my uncle isn't able to hunt anymore and hasn't had any dogs...
I finally bit the bullet and purchased some CCL hatching eggs because no one near me was selling them this year. Hopefully they'll get here sometime in the next month. The Breeder I purchased them from has the orders going out in June-July but I asked and she said it should come before July.
So...
Good news! I found a CCL breeder that has hatching eggs available in may. I'll be ordering some. Also the 3 girls seem to be laying slightly bigger eggs than before! If they get a bit bigger I may try hatching some out.
I'll tell you what, those three are houdini's. I'm not sure how they keep...
I wanted hoovers hatchery so I have a higher chance of getting more birds like the one I have. I've gotta get some before my oldest rooster passes so I don't have to completely start over from scratch.
I don't want to take any chances with genetic "leftovers" from the hatchery crossing the...
