Do you add stuff into your commercially available food?

I've seen something like this "recipe" before. It wasn't as bad as I expected. Wasn't great. Certainly wasn't cost effective. Looks like a number of ingredients were slapped on to a superior recipe based on dubious claims and buzz words. Also, People who know what they are doing don't mix...

Do you add stuff into your commercially available food?

For reasons not relevant here, I have no current access to my computer and my feed calculator. Cell phone isn't conducive to much in depth forum participation.

Do you add stuff into your commercially available food?

Only applicable if suitable forage is available. If, as is true for many (certainly here in the US), that they have to keep their birds contained at all times, then it is certain that simply adding things to a commercially produced complete feed will likely affect its nutritional profile in...

Do Chicks Care About Calcium? Or is it about companies and outdated studies

My clay soils etch concrete. The local university says I need to apply 800# of Ag Lime per acre, twice a year, for the foreseeable future.

Do Chicks Care About Calcium? Or is it about companies and outdated studies

Oh, yeah, pH affects Ca absorption. and given the option, most chickens are pretty good at regulating Ca intake.

How fast does permethrin work? Red mites

I have found periodic spraying with Permethrin of my wooden and concrete board coop MOST effective for controlling mites. Little {explicatives} have nowhere to hide, helps prevent re-infection of your birds. And since I'm not spraying it on my birds, I can make a max concerntration application...

Do Chicks Care About Calcium? Or is it about companies and outdated studies

What kind of Calcium matters. non-phytate Phosporus matters A LOT. Some vitamins matter. Time, Age, and Dosage matter. and there's some failure to diagnose as well.

    WhatsupFlorida?

That is... ODD. One the one hand, they will finally let us sell in egg cartons and similar. On the other hand, they have tripled the size of a "small" flock, and offering a definition for poultry which is less safe, less attractive to residential retail purchasers, and less suitable for heat...

About Making My Own Chicken Feed

Welcome to BYC, you seem to have really jumped in with both feet! I commend you for your eagerness, but recommend you NOT make attempt to make your own feed until you've done your readings and your research. No combination of the three ingredients you've suggested will make a complete chicken...

What did you do in the garden today?

I use kosher dill juice from Claussens , then make devilled eggs from them. Takes longer though, need a good 8-10 days. If your sanitation is impeccable, you can use one jar of left over juice twice (in rapid succession). If its not, you get one shot at it.

Sorry for the photo quality. Some of the birds seem to be actively trying to avoid being the object of my focus. That's a good thing

new research debunks trad views on nutrition

Bti, I swear by it. All natural mosquito (and some fly) control, I still have plenty of many varieties of bees in my pasture, also wasps, spiders, grasshoppers, aphids and all sorts of other critters. But mosquitoes? in spite of a stagnant 20x35' "pond", I have essentially none. @Bawkbok not...

    All flock vs layer feed??

In older birds, gout, excess urates, renal problems, powdery, bumpy eggs w/ calcium deposits (particularly on the narrow end), other joint abnormalities. Internally, calcium can start to deposit as a dry white powdery substance on the organs while it damages the kidneys and liver. At high...

    Chicken Heart Health

If you've done lots of autopsies of birds, chances are you aleady have good idea of what you are looking for. Smooth, unblemished, uniform color, a particular red I don't see elsewhere in nature, with a reasonable but not excessive amount of fat. If you are willing to accept anecdotal reference...
