Managed to catch a few pics...this little fellow is getting color
no shoulder color yet, but I'm pretty sure is just a matter of time.
this one's on my watch list. A not straight comb makes it more challenging as a close examination isn’t feasible. With the golden blonde color, the red shoulder...
After an hour on charger, had enough juice to drill 1 hole. Plan.....ummm....G? Poly all but 1 side each piece. Let it dry till after work tomorrow. Poly other side. Drill, maybe assemble Friday. Poly again Saturday, Sunday, Monday. Hardware and hang next week with Tuesday to finish curing.
Now...
If the "paint sprayer" for the brown can lighten over a laying season to a light cream/tan (mine have done this), then I suppose it's possible that the "paint sprayer" didn't work at all, or was so light as to be non-existent.
Door build update:
At a pause: drill is battery powered and BOTH batteries are dead.
Wood is cut, rough sanded and waiting on drilling holes so can assemble (after trip back to town to exchange uncut wood due to warps/knots: warp removers don't exist, and I'm not going to battle that too)...
A lip of 3-6 inches is a good idea. They like to walk along and peer inside (at least here). They also like to think about a box first. The ones at my In Laws are a bank with the bottom sitting almost on the ground. The upper bank they can peer into from the ground. It doesn't have a lip to walk...
Well, just loaded it all back in the truck. Starting with warped wood isn't conducive to a good finish. The Habitat For Humanity store opens at 10 so heading in to return the wood and see what I can find door wise. If I can't find anything, will go back for the thickest plywood I can find and...
You should see eggs from the black and white straight comb birds any day now. The blue one is a bit longer to wait. At close to 5 months, the bearded one is the only cockerel.
Something like this?
And something like this?
Note: I checked the window and it's a really odd double paned slide, 40some odd inches along the slide x upper 20s the other way....all wood frame, including the slide...and filthy enough to have to slide it apart to clean the glass. I'm not sure...
That "bank coop" is NOT getting built this year. Likely not next either. Can you send me some closeer pics, inside and out of those (PM is fine). They're probably pretty close to what I want to do.
You know, you're right. A vertical swing up on the inside might work....if it can latch flat to the door. Otherwise it will end up a perch, and not be engineered to hold adult weight. Then it could move to the middle. Will have to do another sketch in the morning, running measurements with the...
Can you put a few lines on the sketch pic for where those would go? I'm running blank at the moment. And I DEFINITELY want/need the pop door hinging sideways not vertical. I'm thinking swing in and hook to big door so big door can still open freely.
I do have a window from I have no idea what...
The studs are mostly solid, but the rest of the wrap around needs replacing. I think it's almost as old as the house. And the wood is splintering. What I'd really like to do is get a shed (a bit larger) and tear down the existing coop....leave the foundation (look like railroad ties) and fill it...
I like the offset screw plates, but the long pointy part isn't going to have structural support behind it unless I attach it halfway off the door at the top and bottom. The middle hinge could be one, but the top and bottom will have to be different. Existing hinge has 1 plate screwed into the...
