Fluffy Butt Acres: Stories of our flock

I love those old barns, the beams m my Veterinarian’s barn are amazing! Massive, and they were built with no nails - every beam has a notch which another beam was fit into. And they are warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Dirt is a good insulator. The hay in my loft I call poor man’s...

Fluffy Butt Acres: Stories of our flock

You will need to put pilings into the ground to both hold back the hillside and to support the shed as footings. I like the idea of having a building partially in the ground, as you know we have ‘bank barns’ here that have a bank of earth piled on the north side or the building built into a...

Yes angle cuts are tricky. I personally do not use angle cuts I square everything up together. To make the door more sturdy use a back panel to the door.

You can get various thicknesses of OSB and other plywoods. I have used Fir also it’s comparable to OSB here in price. As for heavy you will require appropriate hinges for the door. I would use strap hinges for an exterior door. I would use three of them...

Fluffy Butt Acres: Stories of our flock

I would not make it the depth of the x4 but lay the 2x4 on it’s flat - I used 3/8” OSB and 1.5” wood deck screws - they have a coating which helps protect against rust. I forgot to take photos - been a rough few days here - finished hay Sunday and I have been really sore and exhausted...

Fluffy Butt Acres: Stories of our flock

I would suggest using 2x4 rather than 2x2. You can use 2x2 but for stability and stiffness I would use 2x4. For OSB if your using a 2x2 then 3/8ths should be sufficient. You can then use the whole sheet for the door, just cut the required openings for window and chook door. Use the 2x2s for...

It was an amazing crystal clear morning today, the moon is at the waning crescent phase and Saturn was gleaming beneath. What a lovely sight, a bit chilly at 11C after all the heat and humidity, which is returning on Thursday. Currently 18C (64F) forecast low tonight is 8C brrrrr! The high...

What's the temperature where you are???

Gosh that’s scary. 30cm is good amt of snow, and if it’s drifting make walking hard. I assume they use snow mobiles (we call them sleds) to get to areas like that.
