I would look into another LGD but get them microchipped. If someone finds your lost dog or steals it, anywhere they'd take it would scan it for a chip even if they were just trying to establish it at their own vet to keep it. LGD can be very stubborn, but teaching good boundaries and recall can...
I haven't bred BCM so I'm not familiar with their SOP, I've just known some birchen birds (oegb) where lesser quality roos did not have as much neck color as they should have had, which made them less obvious color wise to ID (but had enormous combs since oegbs mature fast lol)
I don't like how large their combs are, they aren't even 2 months old. Depending on the quality of these individuals they may not feather in as "typical". Their combs aren't ridiculously red but it just feels so young to have such a developed comb, in a breed that doesn't always have enormous combs.
Black (M) x Splash (F), Blue (F), & Partridge (F) =
1. 100% blue
2. 50/blue 50/black
3. 100% black carrying partridge (simplified)
It's been a few years since I've bred silkies so I'm rusty on chick ID'ing but at face value that's genetically what your flock, but your birds may carry...
In all of my years of raising chicks in our garden built for pollinators, I've never seen a chicken even attempt tasting a bee, but even if they did I feel like you'd see signs if it was an allergy or swelling related death.
If it seems like sudden death I can only suggest doing an autopsy if...
There is a genetic calculator here: https://kippenjungle.nl/Overzicht.htm#eendcalculator most genes are not as simple as X + Y = x & y :) sometimes you get some fun combos!
Snowy x Blue Fawn/Blue Mallard = 50% blue mal, 50% normal mallard
Pastel/Apricot Mallard x Blue Fawn/Blue Mallard = 50%...
Just sort of putting a summary/ending on here I guess in case someone finds it in the future! We went ahead and pulled the last egg, it's many days past and no pip, no movement, no sound, floating showed no movement. I wrapped it in a towel & bagged it, put it in the freezer just in case there...
I agree with death layer parent, I gotta say I saw the first image and went "12 weeks now, the combs so little it's probably -" then saw the ACTUAL 12 week pics not the 8 weeks 🤣 yes a very handsome boy, my reading comprehension though is bad lol
The testes don't have to be descended to get a female pregnant, 4 week old males don't have very big testes but they still need separated ;D Xrays can only detect fetuses when their bones have calcified, usually in the last part of pregnancies, so I would get her checked again in a month or so...
Black + Blue Birchen = half black half blue, regardless of columbian genes. What kind of birds are the parents? if they're mixed breeds we'd need to know their parents to give accuracy as obviously these chicks are not solid black/blue:)
If your local vet doesn't want to treat them, I would look around for a second. Especially if they arrived in bad condition, I would want a vet on hand in case something worsens or develops. Just to be clear you have now 1 male, 1 female, 1 female with babies, 3 babies? Was the vet able to...
Pictures may help, have you already tried contacting vets nearby to see if anyone would be willing to examine her? Not all vets are comfortable with poultry, but especially without eating for this long it may be something pretty serious.
Wow, that looks at least dislocated. Are they still putting weight on it? Have you already called vets nearby to see if they'd examine or xray her/him?
